WP domain vs. Go Daddy?

Currently I have a LOT of domains registered on Go Daddy. Apparently it’s now very easy to register a .com with Word Press so I’m wondering if I should choose Word Press vs. Go Daddy. What are advantages? Disadvantages?

What I want to do is create BOTH a pen name (I’m a writer) and a brand. Meaning that my pen name will be my brand. Under this pen name/brand will be everything I tend to create–various blogs with different purposes, businesses, etc.

To make it more complicated, I do have a another Word Press blog account that has a lot of blogs that I have registered but that blog has my real name associated with it. So eventually I want to transfer some of those blog names to THIS blog account where someone will see either piper lori or my new pen name–neither of which is my real name. I hope that I can do that…transfer blog names to a different WP account?

I do realize that it’s relatively easy to find the real name of a blogger and that’s fine. I’m not trying to hide, just create a new brand and distance myself from the “old me.” I also need to eparate out my real name from current writing clients as some of what I write under my pen name might “offend” some of my current and future clients.

Can someone help me with this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi TT, If we get a domain from godaddy will we have to map it here or it’s simply transferred here?

@hnsaifi-You can purchase a domain through WordPress.com or through another registrar.

While you can transfer your domain from WordPress.com to another registrar (after the 60 day waiting period that ICANN requires), WordPress.com does not currently accept incoming domain transfers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/#transferring-a-domain-to-wordpress-com

So the only option you have if you purchased your domain elsewhere is to map your WordPress.com site to that domain. You can’t transfer the domain itself here.

OK, I read the article. I get all that. Guess the only thing I really wanted to know is if purchasing the $17 a year upgrade for domain mapping will this give me ease of having a hosted blog (WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org) with the advantages of a .com address? And will the fact that it’s “mapped” effect search engine ratings?

Yes, it’s probably better to have a self-hosted blog but as I’m not a techie and never want to be one, will a WordPress.com with domain mapping (.com vs. wordpress.com) be the next best solution for visibility, Google rankings, etc.?

I just posted my REAL question as a new topic as I think it will get lost here. I really need to have the answer to this question re: using WordPress.com as a CMS. Please read my question and feel free to pipe in with answers! Thanks.
