WP forum search not working

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, I was doing a bit of research, this time on censorship. I wanted to see what there was on the subject in the WP forums (and elsewhere). What I discovered is that I can’t activate WP’s search feature. I tried the word ‘censorship’ first. Then I used the word ‘tags’. The search feature didn’t even engage. And I tested the search feature on the top forum site and the support (this) site.

    Anyone?

Hi arrby, So the forum search isn’t giving you any results regardless of what you are searching for?

If so, what browser are you using and do you have 3rd party cookies and javascript enabled? If you have ad blockers or other extensions, you might want to try disabling them first.

If I search for “censorship” or any other keyword, after the first two letters the new jetpack forum search overlay appears with several additional search options. I’m using FF latest.

I’m extremely tired of this. Ad blockers and av, which we are told we need, are the problem and on and on it goes. Maybe techies can deal with it, but I can’t keep up. When I ask for help, geeks stay or silent or disparage me (in various ways). I can’t stop all that I’m doing, constantly, in order to do deep research (which I can’t do anyway) into why the things that are supposed to make my life work good don’t work. I…can’t…do…it!!!

Okay, I ranted. But then I checked with my Epic browser and I was able to do a search. I’m liking Pale Moon less and less but I have zero use for censorious Mozilla, friend of George Soros, which is (partly) why I left Firefox for Pale Moon.

When I have problems that might be because of Pale Moon and I visit the forum to ask, I am essentially told that it’s not them and that something else is causing my problem. And I’m told in geek language that I cannot understand. I’m given directions to follow that I can’t understand and can’t follow and don’t want to follow because it means dropping ALL that I’m doing just in order to research the jargon I’m peppered with. And when I protest that I can’t understand jargon, I do believe that they enjoy knowing that, for I am met with silence or additional gibberish. And they are typical. The world is full of powertrippers and covid 19 has just handed them paradise.

Hello again, the information I gave was intended to assist and not frustrate and is usually the first step in troubleshooting a browser issue. If something is not clear in my explanation, then please let me know. Also, when posting for help, please let us know straight away what browser and operating system you’re using since it helps us to troubleshoot the problem.

I’m not familiar with the browsers you mentioned, but I also do not have any problem with the forum or support search feature when using Brave Version 1.18.75 Chromium: 87.0.4280.101 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I’m a fellow WordPress.com user who volunteers here in the forums, so if you wish to continue to troubleshoot with a Staff member instead, please let me know or add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section of this forum thread’s sidebar.

Thanks. I don’t care where the help comes from.

Given that I had no problem searching with Epic, I have to conclude that my problem does not originate with WP but with PM. I don’t expect anyone here to help me with that, therefore I’ll consider this thread concluded and you may as well, if you wish to. Thanks for the concern.

When I search on ‘censorship’ I get several hits so WordPress.com search works fine and gives several results.
