my subscribers seem to have been given ridiculous generated names attached to their emails. When they subscribe, there is no option to out their name in, only there email. Now when someone manages a comment I have no idea who it is without scrolling through the entire subscriber list to find the made up name and match it to an email and hope that provides me enough information to identify them! How do I fix this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t fix this for your subscribers. If they signed up for a WordPress.com account, they can manage their display name in their own account settings.

Just to confirm it shows their emails when they make a comment but not when they “like”.

You are not supposed to start searching the system for people’s personal information in order to try to identify them.

These are my friends following my travel. I know them all and wish to acknowledge their comments and likes. THEY do not wish to remain anonymous.

If you know them all so well, why are you searching for their identity… DUH

OMG because I know them by their email addresses which do NOT show up, not by some made up name! No need to be rude!

@myanmarcw Hi there, My understanding is that people first subscribed to your site using their email address and were assigned an arbitrary name? Then that is the name that now appears when they comment on your site?

I’m going to temporarily subscribe with an email from “AT duck dot com”. Could you post back here and let me know what generated name the system gave me. Thanks.

    No need.

I see what WPcom has done. It’s created an account for me with a random username and display name.

If your current subscribers wish to change their display name, they can follow the guide mentioned above. If that doesn’t solve the issue, they can change their username by following this guide https://wordpress.com/support/change-your-username/#change-your-username

I’ll test a little further and let you know if anything is different that what is mentioned in those guides.
