WP Preview

Is there any way of getting rid of the dropdown for Preview in posting page? I only use Desktop preview and it used to be the only option (for me the tablet and mobile options don’t work anyway – if I select them they just open desktop views in my laptop or desktop browser – or are they supposed to be used only when editing on tablet or mobile – not advised). Now I have to click 3 times to get what used to take 1 click. There seem so many regressive steps in recent editions. I’m no expert at all but I do find WP harder to use, more time-consuming, than a year ago. Thanks.

Can you confirm the URL of the site you’re working on and explain exactly where you’re clicking?
There are two ways to reach the editor on WordPress.com, and there’s a different in the preview options offered:
If you use the editor via My Site ->Site ->Posts, clicking the Preview button will open a post preview in an overlay, with a drop-down to switch between different views, and a separate button to open the preview in a new browser tab showing your site itself.
If you use the editor in WP-Admin, the preview button itself is a drop-down, letting you switch between different views directly in the editor, i.e. without the overlay, and a link to open the front-end preview in a new tab.
Which of these are you using, and what exactly is not working as I described above?

Hi Kokkieh – thanks for reply. I now realise I should be at wordpress.org. For info, yes, I’m using the wp-admin editor, and wish it were as simple as it was before, just offering one click to get a preview of the article as it will look. Now it takes 3 clicks – one to open dropdown, another to select “Preview in new tab” and a third to close the dropdown. I wonder if anybody thinks of productivity when they dream up these “improvements”. Still grateful for WP as a CMS but it seems to be changing for change’s sake lately.
