WP quandry
-
I went on the WP site for the first time, I have heard that they offer a free internet publishing service. I signed up and it looked like what I had heard, it asked me to get started, and then to make my first submission. It indicated that I had chosen regular publishing, not using a plan, all of which cost money. So I did all that and it said ‘Congratulations, you have published your first entry’. But later in the day it sent me a message to say that what I had posted could not be viewed by the public, and I would need to go back and do something. So I went back, but now it isn’t saying what it said earlier. It offers me plans, all of which are paid, with a month or year free. This is not what I signed up for. Nor was it apparent that I had not published my first entry. SO I am having second thoughts about this site. I want free publishing with no fee. Either they do that or they do not. Someone please explain.

You did set up a free site https://idontlikeorganizedreligion.wordpress.com/ however you didn’t launch it, that’s why nobody can see it.
To launch your site, https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/#launch-your-site -
Hi @sorrythatusernamealreadyexistsloginorreset,
To add to what @staartmees noted, you can host your site for free with WordPress.com for as long as you like, and upgrade to a paid plan when you find you’d like additional features, such as a custom domain. Feel free to disregard any prompts to upgrade in the meantime.
With regards to making your site public, please launch it by going to Settings → General here: https://wordpress.com/settings/general/idontlikeorganizedreligion.wordpress.com
