WP UDesign theme install

Deets: latest WP site, running older version of udesign. Want to upgrade to newest version without breaking the site, I have tried installing the new theme to my own site, but was not able to get my site back, its as if it created a whole new site. All of pages were still there, all of my posts, all of my portfolio… but my original site i designed using udesign ver3.?? was gone. Updating to version 4 needs to be done to numerous sites I have. PHP version 8 will not run on any of these sites which is a security issue and the theme will only allow php 7.3. So I guess what I want to know is if there is someone who might know how to deal with this mess, has dealt with udesign and might know a way to upgrade to v4 and keep my site…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @mcintyreangus,

That does sound frustrating — especially when you’re dealing with multiple sites and a PHP version requirement at the same time.

From what you described, it seems like the change in appearance after updating uDesign may be expected behavior. Major theme upgrades (like uDesign v3 → v4) can involve significant changes, which can cause existing layouts and theme options to reset or behave differently even though your pages and content are still intact.

Since uDesign is a third-party theme and your site is self-hosted, this forum isn’t able to provide hands-on guidance for theme or PHP upgrade workflows. The best next step would be to contact the uDesign theme developer directly, as they’re the ones who can confirm whether there’s a supported upgrade path from v3 to v4 and how to preserve existing layouts.

You may also want to test the upgrade on a staging or backup copy of one site first before applying it to the others, to avoid further disruption.

I hope that helps clarify what you’re seeing, and I wish you the best getting the upgrade sorted out.

Thank you Brent, yes I have purchased numerous copies of this theme, support has run out, but I think I may need to possibly pay for it again and maybe get some answers.
