WP.com not WP.org – Part 2

@tsp-yup. Agree with you there. WP.org for WP.org, Modlook for Modlook. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/using-the-modlook-tag?replies=8

That’s fine TSP. That’s your and your friend’s prerogative. After all, it’s all about choices and of free will.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to rebuke your decision, au contraire, I respect it.
Having said that, it’s true that, like you said, many who come here looking for help with .org blogs don’t know the difference between .org and .com… and basically, 98% of them will be making an honest mistake since they won’t even bother reading the sticky.
Now, will the wp.org tag have the same “effect” as the modlook tag would? True, Mark said in what occasions to use the modlook tag, but how else will they handle this issue?
Even if we mark them as modlook, when we’re not “supposed” to, they can remove the tag themselves and choose not to answer the OP as well. But as long as we keep being the ‘cushion’ of this issue, I’m afraid they won’t take care of things. Honestly, how many mods do you see helping others?
Basically, my point is that they’re relying too much on us. True, no body is forcing us, and if we want to help we’ll do it, if we don’t then we don’t; but I think this is exactly why they don’t do nothing: because at the end of the day, we’ll keep on doing what we’ve always been doing… the same thing. We will tell them “you’re in the wrong forum,” “no, adsense is not allowed here,” and things like that. The answers are right in front of them but since they don’t even bother to look around, is no problem anyway because volunteers we’ll do things for them.
I for one, won’t complicate myself anymore with all this, and will do what was ‘planned’ and won’t answer to threads unless they’re CSS related and if they have a blog linked to their username.
Peace.

I agree with devblog. And I thought the whole point of this was to get staff to do something about this. The modlook tag would probably get staffers annoyed after a while, but getting a ton of .org questioners is also annoying, especially since we know they aren’t bothering to read the sticky notes. I think the modlook tag would force them to take this issue seriously.
Peace Out :D

I also agree with Devblog, & aw1923,
puttingthe “ModLook” will force staff to see
how many questions we get on a daily bases &
will hopefully trigger staff to make a solution
for this issue. -

probably some idiot who wanted us to shut up about this.
OMG, you don’t think they are going to delete this thread now do you?
-
-
Do you think that .ORG people who post here ever complain that it should be more clear where they can find help with their questions? Perhaps the powers that be would listen to them?
-
Like I said earlier, I think we all should do what we are comfortable doing. As for me, my basic rules are no answers without a link to a blog (although if the person asks nicely AND provides enough info for me to tell that they are hosted here, I’ll remind them to provide a link and will answer), and if the question is an obvious .ORG question (like asking about php or sql) then I’m going to put the modlook and the WP.org tags on them.
-
I agree with devblog and aw1923.
@Vivian: In general I’ve been following your advice/example, with one small difference in the no-link cases: I try the nick as blog name, and if I find a wp.com blog with the problem in question this way, I answer (without omitting to mention the need for the URL).
-
I used to do that, too, adam (and yes, I’m shortening your nick to adam – hope you don’t mind) Early on, it was pretty easy to do it that way. Then folks started having multiple blogs and blogs that didn’t match their nicks, so I just gave up trying to look for them.

devblog
NO! NO! NO!
I did not mark this thread as spam!Do you think that .ORG people who post here ever complain that it should be more clear where they can find help with their questions? Perhaps the powers that be would listen to them?Perhaps I was not being clear:
I think those people SHOULD complain that they are not well directed to the support forum that would actually help them. Why should they waste their time looking for help where they won’t find it. It wastes our time, but going to the wrong forum wastes their time as well. Especially if they get advice that is relevant to .COM and not to .ORG They waste time trying something that doesn’t apply to them, and I’d be Pffed-off if that happened to me!!!I don’t understand why staff does not address this problem
It seems just STUPID to make people on both ends waste time and energy because “they all” can’t make a clear distinction between the 2 different formats.
-
oh, I see what you mean, 1tess.
BTW, I didn’t say you marked the thread as spam… i was just referring to the guy’s post with a link to his blogspot blog.
-
And now I agree with Tess, too.
By the way, what I did today was add the two tags but also point at the 8-Things Sticky (without giving the link to the wp.org forum anymore). As I’ve seen, Tess has been doing something similar.
@Vivian (&Tess!): I don’t mind anything – but I’d be happier with Panos or Pan (Adam is my surname).

reason79, don’t hijack the threads and be patient. Some one will get to help you whenever they can.
