WP.com Visual Editor Missing Elements?
-
So, I have my own blog, plus I’m a contributor for another blog. I’ve noticed some differences between the two Visual Editors, and there are some elements that are “missing” from my editor:
Row 1:
“Spell Check” – My blog has it as “Proofread Writing,” whereas the one I contribute for has it as “Toggle Spellcheck” plus a dropdown menu with various languages.
“Insert Poll” – Self-explanatory: a button to insert a poll is on the far right of the first row
“Insert Table” – Again, self-explanatory, and appears next to “Insert Poll”
Row 2/Kitchen Sink:
“Insert/Edit Embedded Media” – This brings up a pop-up with a vast array of various things to do.
At the bottom of my blog, there is nothing that indicates which version this is, but on my contributor blog, it says it’s version 3.0 (there is also an error message at the top saying “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete! Please notify the site administrator.”). This gives me the impression that a recent update – that was already applied prior to creating my blog – has turned these options off and somehow, my contributor blog has disabled updates.
How do I get these extra options in my Visual Editor? Are these some things that only come with certain upgrades?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@raincoaster – want to bet they are referring to one WP.COM site and a separate WP.ORG self hosted site for their friend? :)

Sorry, guess I just got caught up in making the thread that I forgot to include them.
Mine: destroyedcontroller.wordpress.com
Contributor: xbox360digest.com

Bingo! Your site is here on WordPress.COM, your friends site is a self hosted site using WordPress.ORG software. On your site on WordPress.COM not seeing the version number is correct as they have a continuous improvement program and since you can’t “update” the software the version number is not really relevant.
The software is a bit different between the two groups even though they are connected and ran by many of the same people.
What you are seeing is one of the differences between the two systems. What you are seeing is normal.
Hope this helps.

Alright, gotcha. The admin for X3D never told me it was self-hosted (would have saved a lot of headache).
Thanks for the help.

The admin may not have known the difference between .COM and .ORG. Most people don’t, so it’s not uncommon to get things mixed up.

The Admin also might not have thought if was important to note the difference. Had @ninendetim not been writing on both he probably would not have ask.
