WP.org photography and eCommerce theme
-
Hi,
A bit of a dilemma…
I’ve had brilliant support for my WP.com theme for my blog, which I don’t want to change. However, I do need to replace my photography site as it’s about 6 years’ old now and dated.I’ve bought the X theme and self-hosting (WP.org) but not getting the best out of this theme’s support, although I’ve paid for additional support. In fact, after a months’ usage, I’m ready to rip my hair out and give the theme the flick.
I’ve trawled through many themes (WP.org) but haven’t found one that suits. So, has anyone seen a great looking photography theme, which includes eCommerce that stands out in your head? (paid/non-paid theme).
Many thanks for any feedback!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
One thing you could do, if there were themes offered here on WordPress.com that you liked, is look through the Photography styled themes:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/photography/
If you click on a theme’s image, you’ll be taken to its info page. Near the bottom of the sidebar, you should then see either a download link, or the name of the theme developer who created the theme so you can purchase it from them to use on your self hosted site :)

eCommerce theme
There are no e commerce themes here at wordpress.COM. There is no secure payments system here at wordpress.COM and you cannot add a shopping cart to sites hosted by wordpress.COM.
E-commerce options have been removed here at WordPress.COM. Secure payment systems are not available here at wordpress.COM. You need a wordpress.ORG install. Please read this https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/e-commerce-22?replies=17#post-2575955
Provided you are selling only what you yourself make or a providing service that you personally provide on a wordpress.COM site, or you are asking for donations you have two options.
(1) PayPal – Know that the only instructions that will work for posting a PayPal donation button on a WordPress.com blog are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
Note that the PayPal email link is not supported and PayPal customization options are not supported either https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-button-41?replies=12#post-2517229 This is not likely to be changed any time soon, if at all.(2) If you set up an eCommerce site somewhere else online you can create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and include a custom link to that site in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links
Some bloggers create a contact form https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ on a page and after the people have made a PayPal donation they provide the link to a private page for downloading files. Maybe that will work for you.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/If what I provided above at (1) and (2) do not suit you, then this guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to Self-Hosted WordPress where you can set up a secure payment system http://move.wordpress.com
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.me/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpackHowever, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Wow! many thanks @TImethief for all the information and links.
I already have a Wordpres.org account and bought the X Theme, which I loaded to WP.org and trying to build a new site. However, as the support for X hasn’t been that great, especially as I’ve received such great support for my WP.com site, I thought that WP may have their own theme I could buy and use instead of going to an independent Developer’s theme.
Thanks again.

@nilla2014
You’re welcome. I thought that someone needed to provide that information to you. Best wishes. -
Many thanks!
There’s a lot to think about but for now, I need to build a new photography site. Do you have a list of WP Developers?

Code Poet is a directory of WordPress professionals, web designers, and developers brought to you by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and the largest operator of WordPress sites. Here’s the link http://directory.codepoet.com/ if you want to hire someone.

I have a couple more questions:
the WooCommerce plugin? Or, is this a question I should be asking wp.org support/forum?Can I use a free wp.com theme in my wp.org platform?
Many thanks -
Can I use a free wp.com theme in my wp.org platform?
You sure can. Most are available right on WordPress.org/themes, or you can search for them in your dashboard.
You can also visit WordPress.com/themes, search for the theme, and then click on its image. There will be a download link in the bottom of the right hand column.
the WooCommerce plugin? Or, is this a question I should be asking wp.org support/forum?
For questions about WooCommerce, I’d recommend posting here:
