WP's recent change to notification archive
-
I hate to complain because lots of WordPress features work well, but you’ve made two changes recently that have made using WP more time-consuming AND frustrating.
1. The old stats page had a way to check spam. The new stats page does not. Will you please add a spam link to the new stats page? Askimet does a fabulous job of catching spam, but I have to clear the spam often. It was easy to do with a click on the old stats page. Now I have to go the extra st to click on the old stats page or click my way through the cumbersome revised dashboard to get to spam detail.
2. And this is the MOST frustrating – your revised notification tool. The old comment logo -bright orange – was easy to see. The new white bell -I can barely see the orange dot on it. The old archived comments were easy to access, easy to eyeball, easy to respond – quick and easy. The new notification screen – cumbersome to read and very unwieldy to use. WP is always urging us to use BLACK type on white background in posts because it’s easiest to use. Then YOU use a difficult-to-read light blue font to show comments. They are SO hard to read in light blue letters !!! And it is so cumbersome to use the new system to respond to my readers comments – the old way was so quick and so easy. I fail to see improvement in your changes, and responding to comments has become a chore instead of a pleasure.
Please – we want simplicity in use.

I’d add that since your new notification tool, i don’t even receive responses from some bloggers.
A blogger posts; I comment; a blogger responds. Under the old notification system, his response appeared in my archive notification. Under your new tool, His responses never show up. This is occurring with at least 3 of the blogs I follow. It is very frustrating to have them respond and I have no way of knowing. It is a glitch in your notification upgrade that needs to be corrected. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I’ve logged your comments with the others we’ve received for the developers to review.
With regard to spam controls being added to the new Stats page, I believe this is in the pipeline, just not ready yet.
Can you link me to the post that you weren’t notified of follow ups on? I can look into that.

Thanks for the update and forwarding my comments to developers. I appreciate that, and your prompt response.
Here is a link to the blogger whose responses to my comments are not coming through my notification tool http://nofacilities.com/2015/01/18/if-we-were-having-a-beer
If you need additional links to responses that haven’t appeared in my notification, please let me know.
Thanks so much! Sammy

Hmm. I just did some testing on my end with commenting and replies. I got a notification when the author replied to my comment on their post.
I do see some other notifications from that user in your account. From what I can tell right now, it seems like this was a one-time thing. Can you let me know if it happens again and I can ask a developer to dig into why those notifications aren’t appearing?

His comments do not come through on my IPad at all. They will appear on my Windows desktop, but even after they appear on that computer, they still don’t show up on my I-pad.
I now have another bog I follow where the same thing is happening http://www.alphabetsalad.com . Her responses to my comments on her two most recent posts have not appeared in my notifications.

Thanks for those extra details! Are you using the WordPress app on your iPad or the mobile browser?
In the WordPress app you can turn notifications on and off. Can you make sure they’re enabled?
You can do this by going to your iPad Settings and scroll to the WordPress app. There you can opt into Allow Notifications

I access WP through Safari or Internet browser. I downloaded the WP app, but it doesn’t let me do anything but read other blogs. I don’t see an IPad setting at all.
Thanks for your help.

Hi @sammydetroit,
Let’s dive into the WordPress app briefly to make sure it’s set up correctly.
When you initially open the app, can you try to click on the “Me” tab shown here?
You should see a list of WordPress.com blogs on your account. Please let me know if you don’t see this here.
Next, can you try to click on the Notifications tab shown here?
This should be an easy way to see the notifications you have across WordPress.com.
Once we have those in place, we can go over the various functions to make sure they’re working correctly on your side.

Jeremy – Hi. Thanks for all your help. I’m pretty sure I now have the WP app working properly on my I-pad.
