Writers Not receiving Invitations

    I am using WordPress for a class so the blog is private. I have invited the students to join. They all have wordpress accounts because we’ve used it in the past. Only some people are receiving the invites. They others are only able to follow. My dashboard shows that the invitations were sent (and resent several times). Is there a work-around for this problem? Can I approve them following the site and then convert them to writers? Thanks!
