  why can’t a follower post a comment

  Have you consulted the Discussion Settings support page?

  As a non-follower of the site, I just left a test comment on the post Looking Outwards. The comment is being held for moderation. That’s a result of your discussion/comment settings. A follower, and any member for that matter, might have comments intercepted in the same way (for moderation), unless they’ve had a previous comment approved, and you’ve chosen the second of the two “Before a comment appears” options.
