Writing a new post

I would like my post to apply to certain tabs on page. How do I do that? For example if I want to write a post about a celebrity I would like to post it to my entertainment section. Or if its new music…I would like to post it to my new music section

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If I understand you correctly, you’d like to have different categories of posts show up on different pages that can be accessed separately through links on the site menu? Is that correct?

I meant to add that I have my site set up similarly to what I think you are looking to do.

I have some blog posts related to guitar playing and some related to tabletop gaming. I wanted each of those topics to have it’s own menu link at the top of the page, with each of those pages containing posts that are only relevant to that page. So I have a home page with all posts (both guitar and gaming), a guitar categories page with just the guitar posts from the home page, and a gaming categories page with just the gaming posts from the home page. You can see how it looks here:

Is that similar to what you want to do?

Um not quite. basically when you write a post ( you hit the blog posts add button) It doesn’t give you a option to post your blog in a certain section of your site. It automatically posts as a standard post. I want to be able to use the blog posts add button and have the option of posting it either in ( entertainment section, new music section, gallery section, interviews section, events section). I hope thats a bit clearer.

Yes thats exactly what I wanted to do. how do you do it? do you just post it on the page? if so that sucks

Yes! How do you do it? do you post it on the page? if so that sucks.

Ok, to do that, you have to create a custom menu for the site, and you have to use categories to differentiate the posts.

So from the stats page, click on “menus.” You then have to create a new menu to replace the default menu as the primary menu. You do this by clicking on the button to the right of the button that says “Primary Menu” and then “uses.” This is going to replace your current menu (the links across the top of the page).

You’ll get a new menu, I believe called Menu 1 by default, but it will be blank. Click on the plus sign and it will give a field to name the new menu item and a list of items that the menu item can link to. To do what you want, you’ll need to click on “category” and then choose the category you want it to link to. It’s probably a good idea to name that menu item the same as the category to choose.

If you have not used any categories for your posts, it will probably only show “uncategorized” as an option, so make sure your pots have different categories before creating the custom menu and menu items.

Then, if you still want any static pages to show in that new custom menu, you’ll have to add them manually or they will no longer show. You do that by clicking on the plus sign again to add another new menu item and this time choosing “link.” That will give you a list of static pages you’ve created that you can have show up the way that they do now.

It’s a little confusing at first, so I hope my steps will make sense to you, but you can experiment to get it the way you want it. If you don’t like what you’ve done, you can always set your Primary Menu back to the default, then delete the custom menu and start over.

Also, I believe I’ve read that some themes don’t support custom menus, so you may want to look into that for your theme before trying.
