Writing and formatting Poetry

Dear wp community, I am starting a new blog of poetry and pictures. Is there any way I can copypaste my poems into the Editor so that I don’t have to do preformatted, or key shift + Return at the end of each line? At the moment I have to write out each poem afresh so as not to have a paragraph space between each line, and it is very laborious.
Second question: I am using Manifest theme to begin with. Does this support a thumbnail gallery at the beginning of each post, of the images in it? I got the impression it did, but cannot find a widget. If not, do you know a theme which does?
Third question: do you know any themes which support a double page spread, or wrap? I might experiment with wp Classic.

From my point of view the poem looks better when the lines are close to each other, too much spacing can be unattractive.

Cant you do this in microsoft word? then paste it in?
Go to the Line and Page Breaks tab of the Format Paragraph dialog and check
the box for “Keep lines together” to keep all of the lines in a paragraph
together and the “Keep with next” to keep one paragraph together with the
next. -
hello realismbegins. Where is the Format paragraph dialog? My format paragraph button on the toolbar in the visual editor only has Paragraph, Preformatted, and Headings tabs – nothing about keeping lines together, etc.
When I copy my poem from microsoft Word, and open Preformatted and paste it in, each line is still a paragraph break.
I have to re-type the poem either in Preformatted (don’t like the courier font much) or do shift+return at the end of each line, and then delete all the + signs. This takes ages and doesn’t feel right, specially as wordpress say it’s simple. Can you help? Thanks, J.

Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application.
If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.
If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/

If you cannot see the second Row of icons then click the last icon #15 (kitchensink) in Row 1 and it will appear.Quoting justpi:

I usually type my text in note pad and then copy and paste it in the blog, by using notepad I can go to and from adding text sometimes over a day or so I have time to add text or ideas to my article and then when it is totally ready I copy and paste to new blog.
I use the correction tool if need be.

I would suggest not using Notepad if formatting is important. Use an offline blog editor like Blogdesk or Windows Live Writer.

I agree raincoaster, notepad is not good for formatting but it is just me and my old days of using notepad for html writing, it is my trusty friend.

Thank you all. I use microsoft word for mac 2004 – I will check out blogdesk and Windows live writer, as this seems it will prepare the poem to copy and paste. Meanwhile another suggestion was helpful, to do just a Shift Return at the end of each line … comes out very well, and I don’t know why the writing-and-formatting-poetry in wp Support said to type a + as well …! And as it happens, I am always re-writing my poems anyway. I shall check out the web links suggested. It might help me to copypaste from the Word doc. Any further suggestions are gratefully received.
