Writing good tags

  Hi there,

  I’m just wondering how to write the most effective tags for my blog. I beleive that if my tags are done properly it will help me rank higher in relevant catergories in google?? Is someone able to confirm/ correct this? I am also unsure what the “close tags” button means when you are writing a post. I have been told that my tags are faulty/ inneffective/ broken. I assume I am doing something wrong. I am writing in the words I want to tag down the bottom and putting comma’s in between them. Is there more to tagging tht that? Could someone please help me out and/ or lead me to the relevant information?
