Writing post off-site of WordPress

I want to know if anyone uses a Word Processing program such as Microsoft Word? And is it possible to maintain that program’s formatting?

Are there other word processing programs that are easy to do this with?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. I compose posts in Word all the time and copy them straight into the post editor (classic editor – visual mode) using Ctrl-V with no problems. Though I have heard that some people sometimes have formatting issues, I’ve never experienced it myself, but then I don’t tend to add much special formatting to my drafts in Word in the first place.

The issue is that word processors use rich text formatting, while the WordPress editor uses html, and the two don’t always play well together. I’d suggest you write your post in Word so you have an offline backup, but then paste it into WordPress and do your formatting there.

The other option is to use an offline blog-writing tool like Windows Live Writer (or if you use Office 365/2013, it is incorporated into Word – you’ll find Blog Post as an option if you create a new document) and import your posts into WordPress from that. http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/ (the support doc does not cover the Office 365 version and I’ve never used it or Live Writer, so I’m afraid I can’t help you anymore there)
