wrong charges for a domain not used for years
-
Hi back in 2012 I created a wordpress domain – paid the funds for a year to upgrade. I unchecked the automatic payment since I knew it was short term. I cant recall what email I used – probably created one specifically. Years later I am suddenly facing a $99 charge for an upgrade that does not exist. The web address does not exist therefore why the charge? I cant recall the email address and I cant get wordpress help to log into the account so I can figure out how to delete the account and start reversing the incorrect charge. I am at a loss. Is WordPress suddenly turning fraudulent and making it impossible to get closure? I mean years later they incorrectly bill!! HELP!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

by the way the blog I am looking for help with is not the talkz…. that one was never used and I am just using this to post for help on the one that I am charged for.

Hello there,
WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours.
Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.
You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard, cancel any upgrades, claim a refund for any qualified upgrades, and disable auto-renew there. > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades.
Note: Automattic Inc. https://automattic.com/ owns WordPress.com and other products like Akismet and VaultPress, etc. so this could be a charge related to one of them. It’s important to know that each charge is sent to a the registered email address for each username account so if you have more than one username account that could be confusing you.
To address any and all billing issues like this one we can click https://wpchrg.wordpress.com/ and we can also use this form (which works even when the main contact form is closed): http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?whywasi=charged
I will also tag this thread for a Staff follow-up.

by the way the blog I am looking for help with is not the talkz…. that one was never used and I am just using this to post for help on the one that I am charged for.
What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you refer to please?
And, exactly which username account registered that site?
I’m asking because we cannot accurately answer questions posted here until we have confirmed the URL referred to and verified the hosting. And, that is why we are all prompted to provide the relevant URL when we create a new thread.

Hey there,
As @timethief mentioned, what is the username that you used back in 2012 when you made the initial purchase? In order to find the charge, I’ll need some information in regards to the account.
Would you be able to log into the account and post in this thread to confirm ownership? If so, I can look into the charge and possibly provide a refund.
Let me know, thanks!

Heres the thing. I cant find the wordpress blog at all! I mean not at all. So I cant recall the email I used, cant recaldl the user id …and as far as I can google the name I chose belongs to a massive company…www.riverclub.com…. I posted some pictures intending to use as a marketing for the property we were selling at the time.
So all I have is a charge on my credit card and a memory that I did create a blog a long time ago and I know I did uncheck the auto payment. The charge is itemised on my card as WPCHRG.COM 8772733049 USA
with an amount of $99 in 3 March of this year. The facility to open the account doesn’t help me cause it says I should check the email address….yes nice…only if I can now recall what it was!
I am opening a fraudulent claim with the bank and will also pick it up this way because someone has to tell me why the charge was made.
Hope you can help…..

hope you guys can understand that I did not use the blog after about one week….so the specific email I created to use with the blog got lost in the aging memory banks I have as a brain…. and it all went away….except that now I have a charge on my credit card for a web page. Nice if the webpage existed then I could at least figure it out that way backwards and point to something as a start……

ok…found the website….www.riverclubcluser.com
so now how do I get to recover or log in so I can delete the account?
-
Hi there,
riverclubcluser.com is not registered with WordPress.com. The charge is not associated with that domain. Can you visit wpchrg.wordpress.com and see if you can pull up the information regarding the charge that you incurred? With that information, I should be able to find the account.
You’ll need to provide proof of ownership of that account, however.
What I can do is e-mail the address associated with the account so that you can check all of your e-mails and see which one receives the message. All you would need to do is respond from that e-mail to verify ownership. Then, I will definitely be able to assist you in regaining access.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Ok this is getting stranger. the website…riverclubcluster.com…. is the one that I paid for and contains the pictures of the property and since I have charges from wordpress and there is no other blog that I upgraded to get a specific address….. it has to be wordpress. Its very strange for you to say its not a wordpress site!! Then whos is it and why is wordpress charging me? I think you wrong.
I stopped preparing the site because the intention was to direct the property open days to the website for more info but we discovered that nobody goes online and it was not necessary. Nobody looked at the online ad so it indicated we didn’t need a website. I used a new email specifically because it was going to be published and likely attract a ton of junk mail.
As I said…. then I forgot all about it since I didn’t have reason to use it…..and knowing I had unchecked the auto charge it meant it could just end automatically….until the charge.
Now I do understand all the security stuff….you cant have someone just saying so and its done. Especially when they sayd I cant remember anything! But all I want to do is stop the charges and process a refund. You can keep all the rest for whatever reason you want. There is nothing on the website that I am worried about at all. It was reading how to cancel charges that I read I had to cancel the website….therefore the need to log back in it.
Yes you can please definitely let me know the email address associated with the website…. but how the devil willyou do that if riverclubcluster.com is not a wordpress site according to you? you are not making sense?….that would be a good start for me to start resetting things. As I said it was created specifically for this site and not used again. Obviously! if I knew the address I wouldn’t be so inconvenienced.
you are inconsistent and puzzling.
thanks
Thanks for the weblink for the card – it didn’t work. It couldn’t find the charge or something was not right – probably the transaction date is not the date on the bank statement – so I sent off a request. -
if you go to riverclubclusdter.com and look on the top left corner you can see clearly it is a wordpress site.
so you clearly don’t know what you are talking about!
Am I being given the run around with excuses and fake responses? Why?

Hi there,

Am I being given the run around with excuses and fake responses? Why?Not at all, I wouldn’t do that to you =)
If you check your post above, you provided me with the domain http://www.riverclubcluser.com which is not a WordPress.com site. However, you misspelled the domain name. Yes, the domain riverclubcluster.com is indeed a WordPress.com registered domain.
However, it is not under account that you contacted us from.
I would be happy to assist you in cancelling and refunding your purchase. To confirm ownership, post in this thread under the username/account that purchased the upgrade. Then, I can look into refunding the subscription purchase.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

so to go back to the start….I cant recall the username/account. And the link to request by providing a charge reference number just says go to the account! its like a roman municipality of red tape.
if you could provide me with the email I can get that opened because all my mails use ONE email address as verification for password resets….so at least that is ok!…. and once the riverclub email is reset I can log here and give you all that you seek.
At some point I stopped using yahoo….and I am now in the process of stopping gmail as well and moving elsewhere…so it all depends which site I used you see….. all very confusing but both yahoo and gmail are going belly up slowly…..so I am migrating off….
you don’t care and I do understand the security problem….so if I have to I can handle it via my bank by asking them to get all the info for me….to verify the charge made…..but why all that when I can just have some help? I am not looking for anything but a start to the chain to unravel and if I cant….go via bank …..
-
Hi there,
Due to security concerns, I cannot divulge the e-mail address to you. Again, I can e-mail the address on file and maybe one of the e-mails you remember is the one that will receive my e-mail.
I see that you are talking to staff over e-mail regarding your charges. If you provide the information that was asked in the e-mail, they should be able to further assist you.
However, let me know if you would like for me to send you the e-mail. I’d be happy to.
Thanks.

Right then unless WordPress can then verify that the account is correctly billed to me as the owner…and that I gave permission to be billed…. it is fraud is it not?
So I will process this as fraudulent card usage via the bank.
I have found this facility unusable and very unhelpful to the extreme and NO charge should have been made. All this run around is to try and keep monies that should not have been charged by some fakery.
its theft and fraud and will be treated as such.
-
Further your facility tries to prevent clarification and termination in the hopes of collecting more money.

This query is NOT RESOLVED and I refuse to permit it to be closed.
Please refer this to a supervisor or manager
-
Further as is legal please urgently forward a FULL invoice stating ALL detail against which the charge was made, to my bank that you managed to charge. I will request they forward me the full invoice.
Please confirm this invoice – full detail of all information will be forward to the bank that you billed. -
If you would like to further correspond via e-mail to resolve the issue, we’d be happy to. However, there is nothing more we can do for you in the community forums, so I am locking this thread.
