Wrong Domain

  I set up my domain with BlueHost. Then I came back to set up my blog here. When I was setting it up it asked for my domain and I put in magnetmomma.com. I actually own this domain as well but this is NOT the one I want for my blog. Now I don’t know how to change this! Thanks!

  Hi @magnetmomma,

  What domain name do you want for your WordPress.com site? If it’s available, you will be able to get it.

  Also remember that when you have a site on WordPress.com, you don’t need hosting from Bluehost. WordPress.com will provide this for you. If you want to host your website yourself, you’ll want a self hosted WordPress.org website. If you don’t know the difference between the two, this article should be helpful.

  Hmmm, okay. Well, when I initially started this process it mentioned that I could get the domain from Bluehost so I did. I then went to set up in WordPress.com and when I get to the step that says what domain or do you already have a domain, I put in I already have a domain but I put in the wrong one. THAT’s my problem. I tried to re-enter the correct domain but it keeps going back to this step. I can’t even move on. Perhaps this is my sign not to mess with this whole thing. :-)

  Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you had bought hosting at Bluehost, not a domain name. My fault.

  Buying a domain elsewhere and use it on a WordPress.com site is possible. It’s called domain mapping, and you can read all about it here. It requires that you have an upgraded plan though.
