Wrong page published?

    Hi there!

When I click on ”Pages”, I see my ”Services” page. However, when I click on it to modify it, the wrong page appears (the one with an image of a pear). The one I want displayed is already online at lpmecaniquedubatiment.ca/services. How can I remedy this?

    Thanks for your kind assistance.

  • Hi @lpmecanique — were you able to solve this on your own? I’m seeing something that looks like a services page, without a pear image. If you’re seeing something else still, could you get a screenshot and upload it here? Thanks in advance!

    Hi @supernovia!

When I click on ”Pages”, then ”Services” here :

I get this to this ”Services” page (which is the wrong one) :

However, when I go from there to Edit the website :

Then click on ”Pages” and ”Services”, the right page appears :

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi there,

Firstly, thank you for your screenshots, which helped to understand what if going on here. By default when you first install your theme it comes with a generic “page template” which is set up so it displays the content you add here: https://wordpress.com/page/lpmecaniquedubatiment.ca/69

If the default “page template” for this theme were not modified, any edits you make there would be reflected on the published page. However, from what I can see you have edited the Page Template directly, and in doing so you have separated the connection it used to have to the version of the content with the pear.

Instead of editing the content of this page there, you would edit it in the template directly here: https://lpmecaniquedubatiment.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?postId=premium%2Fyuga%2F%2Fpage&postType=wp_template&canvas=edit

Edits you make to the page template will show on the Services Page because you have selected the Page Template, as shown in your screenshot here:

For example, you can click on the text that says “Page” and then in the popup you can click on “Modifier le modèle” to edit the template directly. This is a good shortcut to keep in mind.

Also let’s say (for example) you wanted to show the content of the pear instead of what is shown now. To do that you could switch this setting from “Page” to “Header and Footer Only” or any other template that is set to show contents of the page editor, and you will see the pear on this page instead of the content that is in the template you modified.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hello @staff-totoro!

Thank you very much for the very detailed explanations. I will now know where to find my page.

I was also wondering if it was risky that the generic template page with the pear would appear in Google searches or something like that?

Thanks again for the valuable help.

  • Hi again,

I was also wondering if it was risky that the generic template page with the pear would appear in Google searches or something like that?

If you wish, you can delete all contents you see here to avoid confusion. Since you have made your edits to the template directly anything you add here will not show on the published page, so it can technically be blank here, and that will cause no issue.

Google can only see the published contents of the page, so they would not have a way to access the content of the editor (the one with the pear) since that content is not shown on the live page.

Admittedly, the concept of template editing vs page editing is somewhat advanced. This recent webinar we offered on the topic may help you to understand a bit better than I can explain here:

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
