Wrong site being selected
-
I want to import this website: https://prestonconsulting.com.au/
But when I go to import it, it automatically selects this website: canningbridgeearlylearningcentresample7.wordpress.com
It does not give me the option to change it. What can I do?
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Even the above is automatically saying I need help with: canningbridgeearlylearningcentresample7.wordpress.com
But this is incorrect, the canning bridge site was from a uni assignment many years ago and not relevant here. I just want to import this site to WordPress: https://prestonconsulting.com.au/
Preston is an old WordPress site and we had no luck updating the WordPress version and PHP, so I was hoping to import to current WordPress version instead.

Aren’t the sites in two different places? Here you are at the host WordPress.com where you have the site canningbridgeearlylearningcentresample7.wordpress.com. You can import content from elsewhere to that site or to a new site you create here. But you need an xml file of the content to have something to import. Or you could purchase a Creator plan here to make the import easier but you do need access to the original site.

Yes there is a separate wordpress login for the Preston site, I have access to that, plus Cpanel access and backups of that site. I thought if I got the Creator plan here it would give me the option to import preston but it automatically thinks I want to import the Canning Bridge one and selects it and there seems to be no option to change it.

Hi there! Can you clarify where you are adding the migration trial from exactly? For importing or migrating a site, you would typically access the destination site from your WordPress.com Dashboard or create an entirely new site on WordPress.com if https://canningbridgeearlylearningcentresample7.wordpress.com/ is not the site you are wanting to import the content to.
You can view and access all of your current sites with us at the following address. You can also add a new site and upgrade it to Creator if none of the sites listed are what you are wanting to migrate the content to: https://wordpress.com/sites
We would recommend using Migrate Guru to migrate the site, which will require a Creator plan or higher to install plugins. We have the following guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-using-migrate-guru/
We are also currently offering free migrations for a limited amount of time and can migrate the site for free if interested: https://en.support.wordpress.com/request-a-free-migration/ -
Hi there,
This is the path I’m taking to try and do this. It’s all on the usual WordPress site.
Import an existing site
Enter site address: https://prestonconsulting.com.au/
Continue
Create a new one
What do you want to migrate? >
Everything (requires a Creator Plan)All your site’s content, themes, plugins, users, and customizations. > Continue
Try Creator 7 Days for Free:
This where it has automatically selected the Canning Bridge site:
CheckoutYour order
Site: canningbridgeearlylearningcentresample3.wordpress.com
But I don’t want to import the Canning Bridge site, I want to import the Preston one.
Does that answer your question? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Thanks for the clarification. canningbridgeearlylearningcentresample3.wordpress.com is just a free site that’s automatically being created with a default domain and migration trial plan to migrate the content from prestonconsulting.com.au.
The default domain is created automatically based on your existing username. That is not the source site that’s being migrated, but the destination. If you don’t wish to have that default domain as the address for the destination site, you can create a free site first and change the default domain address following this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/changing-site-address/
Currently you have multiple free sites with a similar default domain. If you aren’t actually using them all, you can access the dashboard of any of them, change the name to something more meaningful for the site you are migrating in, and then select that site from https://wordpress.com/setup/hosted-site-migration/sitePicker?from=https%3A%2F%2Fprestonconsulting.com.au%2F to migrate to.
We can also migrate the site for you for free if you prefer.
