WTCARES site is connected to an access database which will not be active at the end of march, it holds and collects all the applications for dog rescues. Is their a way to transfer the database and the workings to the WTCARES site on wordpress

    Hey there.

    I don’t see a WTCARES site here at WordPress.com. Is this a WordPress.com site, or is it a self-hosted WordPress.org site?

Please send me a link to the WTCARES site on WordPress, and I can look into it further for you!

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

    Hi again!

Aha! Thanks for that identification :)

Now I am seeing the link: https://www.irr.umn.edu/personal/smurd/wtcares/adoptionapp.cfm. Is this correct? You cannot import and access database into your WordPress.com site.

    The solutions are:

    1. Continue to use an outside site to act as your entry form/Access DB, and link from WordPress.com.
    2. You could build a contact form here at WordPress.com. However, that info would be sent to you via email, and you’d have to do the data entry manually into a database.
    3. I just did a test, and discovered you can embed a Google Form on your WordPress.com site:
      http://www.google.com/forms/about/

You would opt to have the data from this form go into a Google Spreadsheet, rather than be sent to you in an email.

This new Google Spreadsheet would then act as your Database. You would have to create a new form, and transfer the old data from Access into your Google Spreadsheet, but it’s doable and simple, and accessible online.

    4. You can also consider self-hosting your WordPress site via WordPress.org, rather than WordPress.com. If you are not familiar with the differences between .org and .com, here is a handy support document:
      http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you have your site hosted on another server, you could move your whole database to that new server.

Let me know if any of these sounds helpful to you, and I can provide more answers to your questions.

    Thanks!
