WWW Canonical Version Of Site Question

  • Unknown's avatar

So I have a friend hosting with WordPress managed, and he has been very happy and I’m thinking of making the switch. However, my site is a www canonical site but it looks like WordPress uses the non-WWW version. Is there a way to make the www version canonical when hosting with WordPress? My site has good SEO, and I worry that a switch will throw off google.
    Thanks!

  • Hey there! We love to hear that. Glad your friend is having a good experience, and we’re glad to hear you’re moving here, too!

Normally the transition from www to non-www here isn’t an issue because we handle the 301 redirects for you, which lets Google and other providers know the address has been updated.

But I see your current site is https://www and I’m not positive whether that will work the same way. We’ll check and let you know what we find. Thanks!

  • Just letting you know I’m still digging into this. I also want to clarify, SEO can be pretty complicated and we can’t make promises on that.

But I do know we do 301 redirects and want to confirm they’ll work with your site.

One thing you can do too, if you’re willing, is go ahead and get the site imported here (you can use All in One or our import tool) then cut over to the new URL briefly, and test the old links. If it isn’t to your liking, we do have a refund period you can take advantage of:

  • I’ve confirmed we can redirect https://www. to your domain. And here’s some info from Google about how those redirects will work:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/301-redirects

We’ll take care of those redirects for you automatically.

Let us know how we can help you get started. Cheers!
