www prefix to my site comes up as an error message
-
If I type http://www.publishing-workshop.com into any browser I get a ‘Server not Found’ error message.
http://publishing-workshop.com is fine. As I understand it, the CNAME record *.publishing-workshop.com should redirect any prefix to my site, but this obviously isn’t working. WordPress you need to fix this! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi selfpublishingworkshop,
Sorry to hear that the redirect isn’t working at the moment. Your post is presently only reviewed by volunteers like myself. To get the attention of WordPress staff, you need to add the tag ‘modlook’ to your post.
I’ve gone ahead and done that for you. Staff will reply in due time.

The “www” prefix has been in the process of being phased out for a number of years. https://publishing-workshop.com/ (note http with an “s”) is your correct address but all browsers should direct straight to your site if visitors just type publishing-workshop.com/

Thank you jameshelps.
themagicrobot – I’m aware that the prefix www isn’t necessary, but many people still type this, and the redirect isn’t working, which makes it appear that my site is down. I’ve tried getting in touch with WordPress to fix it but they are misunderstanding the problem!

You’re right. It still should redirect. @jameshelps has added the modlook tag so staff will respond to you in due course. There may be a delay however a large number of staff are on leave for their annual meet-up and consequently fewer staff are available this week.

Hi there,
I checked you DNS records and saw that you had a TXT record for the www subdomain. I’ve removed this so publishing-workshop.com with the www preface should start working correctly immediately.
Is there a reason you were adding those TXT records?
-
Thank you! I added the TXT records to verify the site with Google Search Console… does this mean my site is no longer verified?
-
Not through that method. Here are instructions on how to verify your site:

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
