@ziploc what is”just bought”?? It takes a few hours for things to resolve to a new address and can take up to 72 hours, The last one I shifted took around 24 hours to settle down. Your name link resolves to a mapped URL – pat of the….

@susamrd – also did you just map your name? If so see above. You also should verify your new name with the search engines. There should be a link in the support Doc’s on doing that. It also take some time for search engines to get used to a new name. Links to your old address should also work / resolve to a real page.

    PS

@susamrd – your blog resolved to a mapped domain as did ziploc’s

The WWW doesn’t apply to domains at WordPress.com. It’ll still work on your blog, but it isn’t a part of your actual domain, since it would cut out a third or so of internet users.

So when you buy a domain from WP.com what you get is http://whatever.com
You do not get http://www.whatever.com although it will still work and lead to your blog. But if people link to you with the WWW in there, it won’t show up in your referrers.

Susan, two possible reasons: One, Google hasn’t had time to recognize your new domain; Two, once it does recognize your domain, it starts from the bottom of the pile and has to build its own pagerank. Your old URL will outrank your new URL until such time as Google figures out they’re the same blog.
