www.corruptwa.com

the domain name has been transferred to a new owner, me, because the original owner failed to maintain payment with the registrar. However the ‘original owner’ has the name hosted on another server and prevents me from my use of http://www.corruptwa.com. I’m not that savvy on how to address this problem… can you help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No sites on WordPress.com have a domain mappings setup for corruptwa.com.
The name servers for corruptwa.com are pointing to Dreamhost:
http://who.is/whois/corruptwa.com
If you want to map corruptwa.com to a WordPress.com site, you’ll need to add a domain mapping upgrade to the site on WordPress.com, and then change the domains name servers according to these steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Let me know if you have questions about that guide and I’ll do my best to make it easy as possible. :)
The trickiest step is #3, changing the name servers with your domain registrar. If you cannot find where to make those edits in your registrar’s settings, we have a sample email in that document you can send to their support folks.
-
Ok, I’ve paid the $13 for the mapping upgrade, but it doesn’t work. I’m not very skilled in this stuff so you’ll need to walk me through it.
-
No problem! The domain mapping is setup correctly. Now, we’ll just need to make some changes at GoDaddy (where the domain is registered). Specifically, we’ll need to point the nameservers to WordPress.com.
You can find GoDaddy-specific settings for changing the nameservers here:
You’ll want to set them to the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COMCan you give that a try?

Jeremey,
Ok…. now http://www.corruptwa.com and http://www.corruptwashington.com are both on wordpress servers…. however i cannot log into either of them using this log-in address
corruptwa.com/wp-login.php or
corruptwashington.com/wp-login.php -
Awesome! Looks like the name servers are set correctly for both domains. Your “Dashboard” actually exists here:
http://corruptwashington.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
You’ll still see the .wordpress.com URL on admin pages like your Dashboard. However, visitors will only see the domain listed here as the primary domain on your account:
https://corruptwashington.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Yes, but how do I get back to http://www.corruptwa.com…. that site seems to be hidden from the public and from me.
When I try to access http://www.corruptwa.com I get redirected to http://www.corruptwashington.com and when I try to “switch sites” from the ‘dashboard’ at http://www.corruptwashington.com I get a “security message”

Yes, but how do I get back to http://www.corruptwa.com…. that site seems to be hidden from the public and from me.
Since they’re both mapped to the same site, only one can be the “primary” domain:
https://corruptwashington.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
Since you have corruptwashington.com set as the primary domain, both corruptwa.com and corruptwashington.wordpress.com will automatically redirect to that site. Are you trying to set these up as separate sites?
When I try to access http://www.corruptwa.com I get redirected to http://www.corruptwashington.com and when I try to “switch sites” from the ‘dashboard’ at http://www.corruptwashington.com I get a “security message”
It looks like you had previously setup http://www.corruptwa.com as a self-hosted site. The listing you’re seeing under “My Sites” is a reference to that previously self-hosted site. Since you have the domain now pointed to WordPress.com, that site will not load. If you would like, I can remove the self-hosted site from your account to reduce confusion.

Ah! Thanks for clarifying. We’ll want to create a separate .wordpress.com site (like corruptwashington.wordpress.com) for corruptwa.com. Can you add a new site to your account following the steps here?
https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-site to-an-existing-account
Once you do that, reply back here, and I will move the domain corruptwa.com to the new site so that it won’t be affiliated with corruptwashington.com.

I’m totally lost…. I have a number of web sites and all have “content” … one site, http://www.corruptwa.com was “owned” by another person and was “hosted” at “dreamhost”. However I was the one who added content to that site. Because of problems with the “owner” of “corruptwa.com” I created http://www.corruptwashington.com. I “exported” the content from “corruptwa.com” and “imported that content to corruptwashington.com”. I also asked the owner of corruptwa.com that I have full control of that site and that he change the servers from “dreamhost” to “wordpress” … which he did.
While I can access corruptwashington.com and add content there, I cannot access any of the content or even see corruptwa.com.
So I don’t understand what happened to corruptwa.com and where all of its content is or how to add or export from corruptwa.com to other sites that I administer.
However i cannot get to the “content” or “add content” or even find “corruptwa.com”

Sorry for the confusion! To clarify a bit, domains hosted at WordPress.com effectively sit on top of .wordpress.com URLs.
For example, your site corruptwashington.wordpress.com has the domain corruptwashington.com. All of the content effectively “lives” at corruptwashington.wordpress.com. The domain corruptwashington.com just sits on top of the .wordpress.com URL.
To manage corruptwa.com separately (have different content than corruptwashington.com), we’ll need to create a separate .wordpress.com URL for that domain. For example, we could create corruptwa.wordpress.com. Then, move the domain from corruptwashington.wordpress.com to the new site corruptwa.wordpress.com. Then, the site can be managed separately. Does that help to clarify?
-
No, it doesn’t help… corruptwa.com already has “different content” from corruptwashington.com . The problem is no one can access corruptwa.com’s content … nor can I log into corruptwa.com as I was once able to do. Instead all attempts to access, login, or view corruptwa.com’s content are ‘redirected’ to corruptwashington.com
For example … when I try to access a story published at corruptwa.com I get this “OOPS”
-
Correct – this is happening because you’re pointing corruptwa.com to WordPress.com in two ways. You have changed the name servers to point to WordPress.com using the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COMYou have also mapped it to corruptwashington.wordpress.com. So, corruptwa.com is simply mimicking the content on corruptwashington.wordpress.com.
Moving forward, can you answer the following
1. When you say ‘corruptwa.com has content already setup’, is this on a self-hosted platform you were previously using? If so, what host were you using?
2. Do you plan to use corruptwa.com with WordPress.com or with your old hosting service?
-
1. When you say ‘corruptwa.com has content already setup’, is this on a self-hosted platform you were previously using? If so, what host were you using?
Yes… all the content that exists for ‘corruptwa.com’ was entered on a self-hosted platform
2. Do you plan to use corruptwa.com with WordPress.com or with your old hosting service?
From this point forward I plan on using corruptwa.com with wordpress.com .
Is this all possible????
-
Sorry…
You ask… What host were you using?
Once again…. “corruptwa.com” was set up by another individual who appointed me the “administrator” of the web site – ONLY. He had ‘corruptwa.com’ hosted by Dreamhost. At that point I was not able to log in to dreamhost or make any ‘server allocations’. When he (the original owner) transferred ‘corruptwa.com’ to WordPress so that I would have full control of the web site and its content… that is when problems occurred preventing me accessing the content and logging in to the site.
Said another way…. ‘corruptwa.com’ was owned by another on another platform, which I administered (from the dashboard) as to content, skins, themes … when the site was transferred to me and pointed to wordpress servers… my ability to do all that I was doing ended. And the site is now “invisible” with the address ‘redirected’ to corruptwashington.com.

Right now you have corruptwashington.com and corruptwa.com connected to the same site, so when you change to domain settings for one, the other changes as well. The most recent changes you’ve made result in corruptwashington.com and corruptwa.com both pointing to the content you have on a self hosted site.
If you want corruptwashington.com and corruptwa.com to be two different sites both hosted by WordPress.com, we can do that. The first step is to create a new WordPress.com site and then import the content from the self hosted corruptwa.com site to it.
Let me know if you want to move corruptwa.com’s content to WordPress.com and we can get started on that step.
-
I already have purchased and setup a wordpress account with you, and I would like corruptwashington.com pointed to that wordpress account. As of right now corruptwa.com is a different site.
-
Cool. I’ve removed and refunded domain mapping for corruptwa.com. Now each domain will point to separate content. DNS changes can take a while to go live everywhere, so you might not see the update right away. If you still can’t access corruptwashington.com at this time tomorrow, let me know.
