Xanga import
-
I’ve imported all my files from Xanga, but only 300 blog posts show up. Is there a limit?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi there, I don’t see any content at all on ericgammen.wordpress.com Is that the site you need help with?
-
The correct site is urfacemakesmepuke.wordpress.com. I have it set to private, so it isn’t visible to the public (I don’t think). The posts on my Xanga should go back to 2005, but WordPress only imported 300 of them, so they only go back to 2008.

@ericgammen with Xanga exports you should get several files, which you need to upload in a specific order. If one of them fails to import properly you’ll have trouble.
Do you want us to clear the site so you can try importing again? Or do you want us to do that and try importing from our end?
-
I did upload the files all in numeric order (1 through 10). I could have you all try it from your end.
-
Thanks, can you upload them to dropbox or something, then add that ink to a post on your site? Once you’ve done that, update us here.
-
I’ve uploaded it on a post just now:

-
Thanks. Did you try to import both of these into the same site?
Also is it OK if I clear the site completely before trying again to import?
-
Anything you had added beyond the xanga stuff would be lost, so please consider carefully before confirming.
-
Yes, I did try to import both. I imported the second (myface) after completing the main one (urface). The only ones that displayed were from urface. I think the first document in the file for urface is the one that contained the 300 posts. Every document uploaded after that didn’t change anything (except maybe comments?)
You can completely clear it!

@ericgammen okay. I’m going to see if I can get them to import into my test sites. If I can, I’ll clear your site and export/import (with a WordPress import this time) into it.
-
Just noting it’s taking a while, but I’m still working on this :) I’ll be taking a break this evening and giving it another go to finish up.

@ericgammen And I’m still working through this :) I’ll run an import, come back and check on it, re-run it if necessary, and so on before moving on to the next one. With 12 imports total it’s taking a while. But so far I have 457 posts, so I think we’re making progress.
Do note: Xanga doesn’t necessarily let us import images. So if you were storing images there you’ll want to manually add them, or keep them hosted through Xanga.
