Xanga import stalled

  • Unknown's avatar

My import from Xanga has been processing for over 24 hours. I think it’s stalled. How do I get that fixed? This is the fifth file I’ve imported and the first four each took a few hours but eventually did import just fine.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up and they will reset the importer for you. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

For instructions on how to do a Xanga import, please see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-xanga/

Note that you must open the .zip export folder you get from Xanga and import ALL of the files included in the .zip folder individually.

If you continue to have trouble with your import, please try a different browser. http://browsehappy.com You might also try the WordPress importer rather than the Xanga-specific importer.

Great – thanks so much! Yes, I have been importing each file individually and so have at least a couple years of my Xanga blog successfully imported into my WordPress blog. It’s only been letting me do them one by one when using the Xanga-specific browser.

    Hi there!

I don’t see a stalled import on your site salmonandsouvlaki.wordpress.com. Did this resolve itself? Is it a different site that you’re having trouble with?

We also have this guide for importing from Xanga:

    Import from Xanga

If you find you’re having trouble with the Xanga importer, try the WordPress one.

Hi Shawna. Thanks for your reply and the link. Salmonandsouvlaki.wordpress.com is definitely the site I’m having trouble with.

The link you sent me are the instructions I’ve been following. Right now, when I click on dashboard, tools, import, xanga, this is the message that I get, “Processing…We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

I uploaded this particular file on Tuesday sometime so it’s been a couple days now. I haven’t gotten the “import finished” email that I got after the other files. So I’m not sure what’s wrong, especially if you don’t see a stalled import.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello!

Sorry about that, I was able to find the stalled import. I’ve cleared that for you and you should be able to continue importing.

Let me know if you have any other trouble. :)

OK great. Thanks for the help! Does this mean that the file I uploaded has been loaded into my blog? Or do I need to do that one again? Thanks!

It’s hard to say from my end. It said that the file had completed uploading, but deleting the job may have removed the associated content. You should check your site and see if the posts or other content from that file have appeared.

Hi Shawna – it’s me again. I uploaded my next file and again, it’s been several days and the import is stalled. I have the same message waiting for me that I referenced above. Can I have your help again to clear it?

I still have at least two files to attempt to load plus I’ve had two different files that stalled. Thanks for the help!

All cleared! Sorry about that. Usually those jobs don’t stall that often. Our system said the import completed, so your files should all be there, but give it a check just to be sure. :)

Thanks again for your help, Shawna! I’ll upload my other two files and then make sure there aren’t any missing months. I do appreciate your help!

Hi Shawna. I’m back again. After our last conversation, I uploaded my next file and it did work. I can see that several more months of my old Xanga blog are now available on my wordpress blog. However, it hasn’t cleared out. It’s been almost two weeks now and I’ve just forgotten to ask you about it. So I guess I’ll need you to clear the system again.

Can you tell me why the files are stalling like this? I promise I’m following the directions exactly. And clearly the process is mostly work because the blogs are showing up just fine. I guess the only consolation is that I think I have just one file left to go after this.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hiya,

Sorry for the delay. I have gone ahead and cleared that import. I’m not quite sure why this Xanga import keeps having so many problems! But it sounded like everything came through, is that the case?

  • Unknown's avatar

I think it did work, yes. Thanks for the help!

So glad to hear it! Hope you have a great week!
