Xanga to WordPress.com Import: Image Issues
-
Also interested in this…. Working on trying to import now. How long did it take for your .xml file to upload to wordpress?

Woot! Got all the files imported. :-) Thank you WordPress and if we figure out this image thing it would be great. I know xanga users that are switching over would love ya forever.

@dappledthingsphotography and @tessfull2,
I just wanted to pop in to let you know that we’re still looking into this, but we don’t have a solution yet. I’m glad to hear imports are working otherwise.
When I know more, I’ll let you know.

Oh wow…I’m so glad WordPress is on to this. I have the same concerns myself, having just successfully imported the Xanga XML file successfully into WordPress.
Fingers and toes crossed that WorkPress can find a way to point the images in each post back to the images on the WordPress server and not the Xanga servers…I would hate to have to go through my 1000+ images and assign them back into the right posts.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that we have yet to sort this out, but I am still keeping an eye on the issue for you.

I too am anxious about this. I would hate for all the photos to suddenly leave my posts if Xanga closes!

does anyone have the basic process for importing the xanga.xml files. The import options only link me to specific site blog types (none of which are xanga). Is there one to select that works with the xanga .xml files. I’m not as concerned with the images for now. Thanks.

The Xanga zip file for my blog has about 6 xml files. Should I import them one at a time and wait for the email each time, or what?
Thanks,

When I go to the wordpress menu “tools’ then “import”, it does not give me xanga as an option to import from. I’ve been with Xanga for 11 years, and would be very unhappy to hear that the import process the toted actually does not work.
-
Just use the WordPress type, as instructed above, Dazzles, it worked like a charm for me.
-
Each time I do it, I add the file, select the author, and hit submit, but nothing happens. The blog doesn’t appear, and the page that loads comes up blank.
-
For instructions on how to do a Xanga import, please see:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-xanga/Note that you must open the .zip export folder you get from Xanga and import ALL of the files included in the .zip folder individually.
-
Also note that your image files are still not included in the export file, but instead appear just as linked images back to Xanga. We have contacted Xanga to see if that will change in the future but so far we don’t have any other information for you.

Just a tip for those experiencing trouble with uploading the Xanga files – from my experience, the browser you upload from can make a difference . Chrome isn’t the best for the import. Try to use Firefox for the process. For me, Firefox did the job perfectly whilst the first few attempts I did on Chrome resulted in what Dazzles012 is describing.
