XML file to large for import
-
I am trying to import content from my blogger blog – unfortunately, the XML file is 75 MB which exceeds the upload limit. I’ve tried using a program to split the file but this wasn’t helpful. My site is still currently live and I plan to move the domain to my wordpress site once it’s ready, but in the meantime, I’m not sure how I can go about getting my existing content into wordpress. Any help would be appreciated, I can’t find any information on this in the forums that is more recent than 2014.

What is the size of the XML file, please?
Is the site you have the XML export file from still online?
If yes, what is the URL?Sometimes the importer gets stuck. If the file is large you may have to import Posts, Pages, etc. in separate files. Or if the file is very large Staff may have to do the import.

The file is 75mb. According to WordPress, my upload limit is 15mb. I’ve tried the WXR file splitter but this program just freezes. Haven’t found another solution so far:

Hi @cocoandvera, we can try splitting it on our end. Before that though, can you try making an export file again, this time removing any unmoderated / spam comments first? Those can take up a lot of space. Then if that still won’t split, let us know and we can try it here.
You will also want to be sure the images at your old host are accessible.

Hi Supernovia, my site is six years old and at times has received up to 75 legitimate comments per post. There is no doubt its enormous and I’ve trimmed everything I possibly can out of it. Photos are accessible from my old host.

Hello!
I’ve just sent you an email so you can send us your export file. Reply to me there and let me know if you didn’t get it.
