Yoko – galleries, formats and links questions
-
Several questions as there are some things I don’t understand and there may be different ways of achieving what I’m aiming for.
1. What does Yoko’s “gallery” post format do? So far when I’ve tried it, it doesn’t seem different from standard format.
a) Is there a particular way I’m meant to add the image files? Am I meant to insert images as a gallery?
b) And if so, how is that different from inserting a gallery in a standard post?2. Can I link images in a gallery to specific posts (ie, not to the image itself or an attachment page.) I’d like to have a gallery made of images of concert flyers. Then when you click on an image, you’re taken to a post with more information about that concert. It would be the post that the image was first uploaded to. And I’d like another gallery with images of books and DVDs that will link to their pages on Amazon.
3. If I can’t make links work like that with a gallery, is there a way of inserting the images individually (so I can link each) and making them lay out in a grid?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I think I may have found an answer to question one by experimenting with posts and looking at them in different places, but that’s not the important question!
I really need help with what I’m trying to achieve.
I’d like to have a screen that shows a grid of images (eg concert flyers.) Clicking on an image should take me to a post about that concert. Not to the image url.
Can I do this with a gallery? So far, I can’t make gallery images link to a post.
If not, can I create a page that will display images in a grid? So I could link each individually to its concert page.
Thanks.

Gallery images can only be linked to either an
attachment page (a specialized page in your blog that shows the image in your selected theme) or a media file (a direct link to the full-size uploaded image.).We can add perhaps add html table to a post and add images to the table cells. We can link those images to wherever but that won’t look great.
The best thing is to use a theme that supports grid of images like Cubic and add featured images. Here is how Cubic looks: https://cubicdemo.wordpress.com/

Hi there!
1. What does Yoko’s “gallery” post format do? So far when I’ve tried it, it doesn’t seem different from standard format.
a) Is there a particular way I’m meant to add the image files? Am I meant to insert images as a gallery?
b) And if so, how is that different from inserting a gallery in a standard post?Post formats are mainly used to highlight the particular form of content you have in a post. There’s generally nothing different about the post itself, but if your theme knows that a post has an image or a gallery in it, it can highlight that content. Here’s some more info about this:
As staff-happychia has mentioned, Gallery images can not be linked to custom links currently.
3. If I can’t make links work like that with a gallery, is there a way of inserting the images individually (so I can link each) and making them lay out in a grid?
If you’re interested in switching your theme, we have many themes that have Grid templates. This will allow you to create a grid of images and excerpts that link to pages, separate from your posts. Here’s an example of one:

Or if these are all meant to be posts, a grid theme link chaitanyamsv mentioned will work.

A bit of a workaround, but https://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/gallery-as-an-index-page/
