    Hi

It sounds like you still have you site set to private. You will need to change the site to public for others to view it.

Go to your site, then settings. Under the general option towards the bottom you can make the change there.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi there,

It looks like you’ve since managed to launch your site, but let us know if you still need any help with this.

Hello Kokkieh, and thanks alot for your offer to help. :) I am very new here at WordPress, and previously I used a Norwegian blog, but this site is no longer available for new members of some reason.

The thing is: In 2014 I wrote a book, and it was nearly published. In English it is called “100 written days”. Since it got rejected ( 9 out of 10 does, so I wasn`t very hopeful ). But it is written like a diary, sort of, so I recently figured out that I would share this story as a blog, instead of a book. It took me half a year to write it, so I am a bit worried that I will loose it somehow.

After I got the advice from Candice, I followed her instructions, and then I logged out, and shut down all browsers. Then I tried to write the adress to the blog as a reader, without being logged in, and it showed up. So it seemed to work. :)

There is only one thing: ( I should have thought about this before ). When I see the blog as a reader, the “book” shows the ending of the story at the top, and the first page all the way at the bottom. So you must scroll all the way to the bottom to find day 1, and read upwards, hehe :) Is there any way of turning this arround, without writing it again, backwards? :)

    Thank you for your help.

    Best regards!
    Jeppe

  • Hi Jeppe, in the reader, no there really isn’t a way to do this. It will always show in reverse chronology.

But you can make a menu link on your site that shows the story from oldest to newest posts, and possibly refer people to that link in your posts as well. Would that work for you?

Alternatively, you could make the posts private and schedule them to publish one at a time, so that followers will experience the story chronologically.

Hello Supernovia, and thank you very much for the advice. :) I think I might try to do something like that, but first I need to upload the remaining 75 days, hehe :) Alot of work, but it keeps me busy though. :)

    Thanks again. :)

    Best regards
    Jeppe

  • Jeppe, if you published them a few days a part, with the oldest ones first, you could finish uploading the rest as you go. Just a thought! :)

Supernovia, I should have thought of that, hehe. :) But the system om this platform is different from the previous platform I was on. But each “article” is named “day 1”, “day 2” and then on. So if people are interested enough, they will hopefully get used to it. I have to upload them a bit quickly, because a magazine relevant to my categories will soon read the blog. But one question: Is it “illegal” for me to make my own website, where I also publish this same story?

  • But one question: Is it “illegal” for me to make my own website, where I also publish this same story?

We really can’t tell you whether or not something is legal, as we’re not your attorneys :)

You say the book was never published, though? Then I doubt it would be illegal, as you would still own all right related to the work – you haven’t signed any rights over to a publishing house.

But best to consult a local attorney if you’re not sure.

Kokkieh: Hehe, I know you’re not my attorneys. :) I was just wondering about the basic rules. For example: You should never send your script to more than one publisher at the time, here in Norway. Not sure if it`s directly illegal, but if two of them said yes, it would be a mess.

The book was never published, but they said it was close. I think I`ll wait with the attorney-part. This is Norway, one of the most expensive countries in the world. An attorney would not be an option with my wallet. :)

But thank you for the reply.

Not sure what happened with the frame arround parts of my reply there, but you`ll get the point. :)

  • My totally not-a-lawyer and not-a-WordPress.com-employee but rather fellow-aspiring-writer opinion, it’s highly unlikely it would be illegal if you haven’t signed a contract with a literary agent or publisher.

Blogging it falls in the same general category as self-publishing if you ask me, so if you plan on still shopping your manuscript to agents/publishers that might hurt your chances. On the other hand, there have been people who did exactly that, and it helped their work being discovered by a publisher who then re-published it, so there’s really no way to know.

For this it might be better to ask in a writer’s forum like Absolute Write, or perhaps a local Norwegian writer’s forum if one exists.

The banner that appeared across the top of my first post is less than useful, as when you click “launch” it does nothing. Perhaps it could become a redirect to what is mentioned above, or removed altogether.

Kokkieh: I will check out if there are any forums like that. :) But if it becomes a big case, at least the book will get alot of attention anyways, hehe. :) Thanks for the advice.

Tonyromab: Important point. That banner is the reason why I was here in the first place. The button I was supposed to push to “launch the site” had no function. I was wondering if I had to upgrade to a paid version of the blog to “reach out to people”. It was the advice from Candice ( all the way to the top of the topic ), that helped me.

    Best regards
