Non-WordPress commenters are not being able to leave comments on my blog either. Hopefully this will be fixed soon?!!

If a reader is reporting that they can’t post a comment, and don’t have a WordPress.com account, please ask them to try entering their email address here:
http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
It’s possible that they opened a WordPress.com account in the past, but forgot about it.
Otherwise, please feel free to ask them to contact us directly, and we’ll sort it out. :-)

One of my readers who can’t comment has never had a WP account and shouldn’t have to create one to leave a comment.

So, if I read this right, for anyone to comment, they must use a WP login or make one, if they never had one previously? That seems a little bit ridiculous? Can’t they just put their email address in as they always have??

I’m having issues with this as well. so, if the commenter has a gravatar account, but doesn’t have a wordpress account, I would have to ask them to create one just to comment on my blog?
is there another way around this issue? -
One can also post comments on your blog using facebook or twitter account. If one want to show the avatars with comment one can use them. I’ve seen some comments whose name was linked to gravatar account, showing that they don’t have any wordpress account can still post comments.

I have my comments set so that readers do not have to put in an email address at all (i.e. I have de-selected Comment author must fill out name and e-mail.
But these readers I still getting an error message:
“That email address is associated with an existing WordPress.com account, please log in to use it.”
I have tried it myself. I just went to another computer than the one I normally used and tried to leave an anonymous comment on my blog. I got the same error message.
The problem is NOT that people are forgetting an email that they may have used on WordPress before.

Our problems have nothing to do with lost or forgotten passwords. All of our bloggers are regular visitors to the site and generally comment several times a day. This only happened today for most of them.

Kinda disappointing that this staff member left out the little detail that gravatar users now have to login to wordpress.com as well (that is, if they want to be able to comment with their gravatars; their gravatar username/password should work on the wp login). This is really the heart of the issue here.
Our blog is heavy with gravatar users, so this problem is serious enough that I’m being forced to post up a dedicated thread with an explanation for our readers.

When people type out a comment, and then enter their email/gravatar/info, they are getting an error message and the comment they took the time to type out is erased. Is there any way to ensure their comment stays in the comment field until they either log in or cancel or choose another way to enter their information?

One commenter in particular who received this message said she deleted her WP.com account 6 months ago. So she can’t login.
One can not delete one’s account from wordpress.com.http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
One can only delete blog.
If that commenter has deleted her blog she will still be able to log in her account to post comments. -
This is just a complete mess, I’ve had a tiny fraction of the usual number of comments at my blog today, with a bunch of people emailing me to say they can’t log in to comment.
Did I miss an email from WordPress to warn this was going to happen?
What is the solution here for people who don’t have WordPress accounts – and don’t want one – and don’t want to sign in with their Twitter/Facebook accounts to comment?
Please WordPress, undo the changes you made asap, this is a mess.

Yes. And what is the solution for bloggers who don’t want to have to make their users sign in with an email address at all?

I am VERY disappointed in WordPress.com ! I have been blogging for years now, never had complaints but this is going too far. No warning whatsoever from WordPress about these changes? I don’t want to force my readers to create a WordPress account they don’t need, you should simply be able to react by using your name and mail address, that’s it, no log in required.
PLEASE CHANGE EVERYTHING BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS! Cause it was perfect like that… -
Do they expect everyone to have a Gravatar or WordPress.com account? Okey, it’s possible to comment with Twitter, but I guess that only apply to blogs that have activate that option?
What about Google or Open Id?
And without a warning? Not good, not good at all. -

Now, if you aren’t using a “meta” widget in the sidebar on your blog (w/ login link), you might want to add that (or add a text widget with a link to wp.com login page or something). Otherwise, it’s an even bigger PITA for casual visitors, and you’re bound to lose comments out of pure frustration.

I also wondered why comments had dropped a little. This is ridiculous! Togther with the other problems I have logged with Support at the moment, I’m getting really frustrated.
Free this platform might be, but it has to be USABLE, and at the moment, with comments going looney, non-existant URLs in the site map going to Google and the tags not on every page for Quantcast to pick up, I’ve not surprised my Alexa rank is dropping!

Well I think this to be a good change to check spam activity along with other factors yet I don’t think it to be affect your commenter.
