Yes, this is my major beef with this “upgrade” since I have enabled anonymous comments on my blog. Except they don’t work now.

@teamoyeniyi, in the end WP will be just like Facebook. You cannot comment on someone status until you’ve activated your own FB account.

It’s a facebook clone already. We’re blessed with a great “LIKE” just like what we got on Facebook. It’s just about time to see another new feature as wordpress.com convert itself as a microblogging service: an ability to tag our wordpress.com comrades in our posts and comments. LOL.

What is this? Blogging is about sharing and it annoys the hell out of me that my regular readers from Blogger can’t leave a comment.

Is Blogger any better? I’m confused by all this because WordPress seemed such a friendly helpful crowd. They went to great lengths last year to encourage us to comment on other blogs and now for what?
It’s such a great shame.
I wonder why they don’t respond to this thread or are we all beneath them now?

Having left Blogger for WordPress only recently, and Blogger’s own lousy comments system being one of the reasons (and I hear it’s got worse in the meantime), I’d have to say no. But it looks like WordPress are trying to compete with Blogger to see who can be the most annoying. I have a feeling that self-hosting and going with a third party plug-in comment system is going to be the way to go if WP can’t or won’t put this back the way it was.

I have someone who is reading through my entire web site. She is commenting to me in a forum we are both members of. What does that tell you?

Just wanted to add my vote against these changes especially the way they have been introduced – wasted loads of time this morning because of this change & worried my comments will drop.

@nandobase The trouble with FB it will divert people from your blog onto Facebook.
Facebook maybe popular but it is so different to blogging.@angryexile I know exactly what you mean about blogger and if the person does not set up their comment options correctly they will not received comments!

Ok. This is ridiculous.
It’s now over 48 hours since this “upgrade” happened and my readers, who comment anonymously (i.e. without having to type in an email address) STILL cannot comment on my blog.
WHAT is the story?!?!?!?!

That’s me doing the “none” test comments on your “comments ii” blog post. One thing I notice is that my comments don’t appear under your comments do. Does that mean you are doing moderation to approve them (I’d hope so since it would be wide open to spam if not).
FYI, I have extensive background in programming, systems, networks, etc., so I look at computer problems from that perspective. I just don’t work for WP, though (I happen to work a computer security company).

That should be “my comments don’t appear UNTIL your comments do”.
And this is on hbdchick’s blog I’m posting to. I’m posting from another browser W/O any of my login cookies that I need to post here in the forums.

@motre – I need to approve the first comment that someone makes. Then, as long as you come from the same IP (obviously), your subsequent comments should appear automatically. (Unless you misbehave. ;-) )

Now I’m really frustrated after 48 hours of this since probably about half of my readers post anonymously, and another quarter or so don’t log-in in to WordPress as a rule. So this has just been a mess.
Soon time to give it up for the night here, though.
