You shouldn’t have to Upgrade to Get the Classic Editor
-
Gutenberg is a very bad user experience. Slow, clunky counter-intuitive. You should not have to pay in order to get the Classic Editor.

Hi there, you don’t need to upgrade. WordPress.com is moving to the Block Editor as default (you can read more about that in this blog post https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/08/13/the-classic-editing-experience-is-moving-not-leaving/ ) but you should be able to:
1. Use the Classic Block, which emulates the Classic Editor experience, as described here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/2. Or navigate to your WPcom site’s WP Admin dashboard (yoursite.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and using the Classic Editor there

I see them now. Thank you for your response. The developers still need to find a way to make it easier to use. For example with Classic on an iPhone, it floats the menu instead of docking it above so you can only see one line of text when you edit making it nearly impossible. In other words, allow users to dock the menu in classic. Then in block, having to do a backslash to find everything is very 1989. There should also be a docked menu above. But the main point is that if you have open user revolt, it means that it’s something the users just don’t want.

Hi again, so do I understand correctly that you are using the WordPress iPhone app to create your content or are you using a browser (Safari, Opera, Firefox?) to create your content on your phone?
I’ve gone ahead and flagged this thread for Staff to note your feedback. Thanks.

Thanks @justjennifer.
@thebotendaddy are you using wp-admin’s classic editor as outlined here?
https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor -
I use it from Safari on iPhone, so some of the admin features shown in the link are not available as you would see in a desktop browser.
-
https://thebotendaddy.wordpress.com/ is the only site on the account you’re logged in to, and it’s already set to the Classic Editor.
Were you able to take care of this, or are you referring to a different site?
-
I figured out that you can use the Classic editor without upgrading, but I seem to have to set it to classic every time I log in.
The other issue is the massive floating menu. I’m glad to have the menu, but on an iPhone it blocks all but one line of text. It should be dockable up top.
In short, whatever changes were made have made WordPress editing much more difficult, slow and clunky. You might do best to work on resolving UI and workflow issues, or just let users choose: revert to what worked well in its entirety or choose the new editing interface if desired.
