You Tube Video Auto Play

  • Unknown's avatar

I spent the last three days converting or adding a “S” at the end of the http in Gigya code https so they’ll play once again as auto-play and get content blocked by browsers. As of Monday morning at 8:00AM all I had done (about third of music blogs) were doing exactly that auto playing. Now as of 12:00AM video’s for whatever reason are set on the off position on the videos in blogs.

    I am infuriated.

75+% of my blogs are Music, even most of the sports ones of Tigers & Red Wings highlighting capturing titles have a video in auto-play.

One second things are functioning, next second they’re not. Took a lot of time editing one by one adding the S in https and still had a ways to go to edit all.

Can somebody please tell me why all now seem to be in the OFF position? The point is to have them playing immediately upon clicking onto blog.

If it’s going to be like this, the fun of writing blogs for me will be over.

I don’t want to hear from people who don’t like blogs with music auto-playing, as I said my Music blogs, that’s what they are suppose to do.

Everything I edited as of Mon. morning were fine, they all were automatically playing now YT video’s are all in off position and I didn’t do a thing to make them that way.

    I’d appreciate any help.

    Thank You.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

And the one part was suppose to be

so they’ll play once again as auto-play and get content UN- blocked by browsers.

    Now I just found this.

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/is-there-a-way-to-have-music-begin-automatically-on-a-page?replies=6#post-2219242

Happiness engineer stating auto=play not supported use Sound Cloud.

Well since 2011 the Gigya code HAS BEEN supported.

When I started here in 2009 a simple YT code WP decided not to support forcing the use of Soundcloud. But when the Gigya code came out for Auto-Play WP did support it.

I have over 800 Music blogs with others having YT video playing for a reason.

Are you telling me I have to redo all these video’s, download then onto Sound Cloud. You have to be kidding.

WordPress is reverting and going backwards. You just destroyed my entire Blogsite. For 4 years Auto-play has certainly been supported.

As I stated I spent three days adding an S to http “https” to make them indeed play. And that had changed over night working one second to not working the next.

Now as of Mon. morning ALL were auto=playing just fine, as of Midnight when I logged in all YT video’s have been turned to off position. So WordPress has done this???

    I do not understand, Why?

  • Unknown's avatar

Please do not do this to me and the rest. You have destroyed my blog site, literally.

Raincoster answered on another question of this subject “Oh I Hope So”, what would happen if every blog that had video’s all started playing.

When I post a new Music Blog, I edit the previous one with MORE to cut it and it states continue reading. Nobody in their right mind would leave all their blogs with video’s intact on main page so they all would play simultaneously. That would be absurd.

Very inconsiderate response. I’m glad they hope so that WP has stopped supporting Gigya but writing Music blogs I’m devastated right now.

That’s why I write, the music playing is the highlight of a Music Blog and why people view, regardless if some who don’t like this on blogs.

After going to my email notebook this was added in 2010. (I just edited the https in Sunday night in place of http)

Instructions: for Auto Play in Word Press. Gigya Method

Copy the video url from the address bar:

Here is an example Youtube video url:

Paste the url in a post using the html editor.

Now look out for this part in the url

    watch?
    delete it completely.

Here is how the video url looks after watch? is deleted:

Now add a / after v and also delete the =

This is how the example url looks after these modifications:

The first part of your job is finished.

Now copy the following code and paste it using the html editor:

    [gigya src= "PASTE-MODIFIED-URL" flashvars="autoplay=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"]

See the part that says PASTE-MODIFIED-URL in the above code?
Delete it completely. Copy the modified url and paste it in its place.

This is how the code looks after the change:

    [gigya src= "https://www.youtube.com/v/JzCkD3vRukA" flashvars="autoplay=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"]

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=JzCkD3vRukA

So WP has supported Auto-Play for YT since 2010.

Heartless answer and heartless WP reverting backward. Not when I have almost 890 blogs with 80% or more with video’s meant to auto-play.

I’m asking you to please go back to supporting Gigya Method as you have been all this time. Otherwise the joy of writing my blog site will be finished.

    Will anybody ever address this?

…now YT video’s are all in off position and I didn’t do a thing to make them that way.

The video of the Velvelettes recording of “That’s a Funny Way,” in your 13 October 2014 post Motown Monday ~ “That’s a Funny Way” ~ The Velvelettes, is playing. Nice selection.

Gigya videos with an “s” added to the “http” in the code are still working on my website.

I believe these are two entirely separate issues. Some of your YouTube videos might not be playing for reasons unconnected to the Gigya “s” fix recently required. YouTube not infrequently blocks selected videos due to copyright issues or other reasons stated or unstated. Embedded videos can also stop playing on your website because the YouTube account holder has
    1. had his/her account suspended,
    2. removed the video,
    3. disabled embedding on the video, or
    4. made the video private, or unlisted.

On your post WordPress Stops Support for Gigya Method for You Tube Auto Play, the Peter Gunn theme video has embedding disabled by the YouTube account holder.

That video isn’t Auto-Playing for me.

Other links in my own comments lead to answer.

    Hi!

Autoplay is not supported through the WordPress.com embedded players. However, it looks like you should be able to accomplish this using Soundcloud. First, you would want to upload your files to Soundcloud. Then, you could embed it with autoplay enabled here:

    http://help.soundcloud.com/customer/portal/articles/567116-how-do-you-make-a-track-autoplay-from-a-widget-

Instructions for Soundcloud embeds on WordPress.com can be found here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/soundcloud-audio-player/

Can you give that a try?

WordPress has turned them off, in reality something they Have supported for 5 years Gigya Method for YT has been done away with.

  • Unknown's avatar

That video isn’t Auto-Playing for me.

Sorry, I hadn’t checked to see whether auto-play was working on my Gigya videos. You are correct. They are not.

Thanks for the tip regarding SoundCloud, but that’s nothing new. I’ve been embedding SoundCloud players for a few years on WordPress.

Gigya Method for YT has been done away with.

Not so surprising. My guess is that they (WP) want people to start paying for the privilege of setting videos to autoplay.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well I have 800 Music Blogs and now they’ve been destroyed because of this. I’m not about to go through downloading the YT video’s then uploading them all onto soundcloud. They started with SC, wouldn’t allow simple code for YT auto-play. Then finally the Gigya Method came along and WP did Support it.

This is beyond upsetting. My enjoyment of writing and posting just got thrown under a bus. We deserve a Why? WP would think so little of us to do this. It doesn’t make any sense to wreck what I’ve put so much time and effort in for just a blink of an eye to do way with out of the blue.

You don’t go backwards and that is what WP has done.

What difference is the source of the auto-play. Whether YT or SC?

WP destroyed my whole site over sound cloud deal $$$$.

    It’s disheartening.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well here is in-fact exactly how long Gigya Method was supported by Word Press and the User who enlightened me.

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/enable-youtube-autoplay-for-wordpresscom-a-workaround?replies=1#post-517679

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/autoplay-youtube?replies=6

So how can WP just do away with this and now flip a switch or with one click and disable our auto-play video’s like this. It just isn’t fair.

I’ve been writing on this site since Sep 2, 2009. 896 posts to Date (yes one addressing this issue).

All of the time and effort and yes enjoyment dissolved and for what reason. Most of what I’ve written with most blogs wouldn’t be the same without the music automatically playing from the start.

Of course right now you have disabled it.

Motown Monday & Some Reflections from the 10Th Anniversary of 9-11

There’s a point to what’s playing to the subject matter and pictures displayed. Those that don’t like music playing, fine you’ll never miss my blogs.

Justin Verlander Cy Young & MVP…. Ain’t it Sweet to be a Detroit Tiger!

My friends have complimented me and that’s who I write for along with the countless 100% music blogs that are enjoyed by many, from the IP Tracer – around the world.

All the time auto-playing and being supported by WP.

Why pull the rug from under me and anybody else who also has YT auto-playing and again what is the difference of what AP’s whether YT or soundcloud.

I cannot redo all of these blogs, I just don’t have the time. You are throwing all my work away. Not important to you but important to me.

Again Please reconsider and continue as you have for 5 years allowing the Gigya Method and restore my Auto-play because it’s only that has stopped it.

But you can’t just answer as you did on this link.

This is a lie. Autoplay through Gigya has been supported for a long time.

My blog along with others shouldn’t just be thrown away and disabled.

    @ longshotsblues,
    Hi.

Again Please reconsider and continue as you have for 5 years allowing the Gigya Method and restore my Auto-play because it’s only that has stopped it.

This is a lie. Autoplay through Gigya has been supported for a long time.

I’ve been using WordPress for over 6 years and as far as I know it has never been officially supported. Gigya has been a workaround that WordPress has ignored, passively allowed, or did not bother with going to the trouble of preventing the use of. That’s not the same as saying they supported its use. I don’t recall ever seeing an official WordPress.com Gigya support page.

Today, autoplay is working on my embedded videos with Gigya code. It wasn’t working when I checked last night, but today the autoplay is working. Check the following videos:

When Will I See You Again — Three Degrees, recorded in 1973 (1974 lip-synch performance)

Didn’t Want to Have to Do It — Cass Elliot, with John Sebastien and Zal Yanofsky, 1965

Early in the Morning — Charlie Feathers, c. 1960

I suspect that the failure may have been caused by the recent Firefox update (26 January). Sometimes FF updates require adaptive modifications by WP which are not immediately implemented. I thought of that last night, but it was very late. This afternoon I was going to test Gigya autoplay on another browser, but it worked on FF so I didn’t get to that.

I just got onto computer and after seeing this I checked just one of mine and it is back autoplaying so I assume all will as well.

    Hi guys,

This forum has been extremely helpful. Longshotblues, your suggestion of adding an “s” to the end of every “http” in the Gigya code worked wonders.

I can’t believe that we have to go back and change all of our links! This will take forever (as you’ve already noted)!
