WordPress followers incorrectly pointed to temporary URL
When I click on dishndat.wordpress.com I am redirected to a site not hosted on WordPress.com dishndat.me. Therefore, I am not certain I understand what you mean by “temporary URL”. Could you please clarify?
-
Hi, and thank you so much for answering. I was working with someone yesterday who told me to repost my question with a tag for her, which I did, but I guess she is no longer available, and she had the full story! So, I will try to recap as quickly as I can: I had a website/blog on WordPress.com, which I moved to a self-hosted WordPress.org site. When it was time to launch and redirect the server names, someone at WordPress moved my WordPress.com subscribers and my regular e-mail subscribers over for me. My e-mail subscribers are clearly receiving notifications when I publish a post, but it is also clear that my WordPress.com subscribers are either not receiving notification or not able to see the blog. The woman I spoke with yesterday said that they were being pointed to the temporary URL I had when I was moving the website over. So, it looks like what I need is to make sure that the WordPress.com subscribers are being directed to dishndat.me. If you type that into your browser, it should work just fine. I am tempted to just send all of them e-mails to that effect, but I think it’s important that this glitch is corrected.
I have a plugin that is supposed to change all the URLs, but I am not sure what the old one is and what the new one is, or I would do that, too.
One more thing: I am not going to be on my own computer until tomorrow morning, so if you have any advice, I probably won’t be able to try it out until tomorrow. Will you still be available?
Thanks again.

I found the post you were referring to and the staff member who requested you open a new forum post is jackiedana. I’m going to tag this for staff attention. Please be patient until she replies.

@anne107, you currently have Jetpack connected to your site at 66.147.244.196/~dishndat/ rather than http://dishndat.me/ .
While our system recognizes that this is the same blog, it’s possible that there was a connection issue when your DNS records updated.
Could you please disconnect and reconnect your Jetpack connection to your anne107 account and let me know when you’ve done that?
-
Thanks. OK. I will try. I assume that you mean I should deactivate my Jet Pack? I am not sure how to reconnect it to my anne 107 account (my wordpress.com account), but I will try.
-
Oh, I found it. It says that I am connected to wordpress.com. Should I disconnect and reconnect to wordpress.com?

It looks like you did great! :)
I’ve tried migrating your followers over again. Please let me know if you or your followers experience any trouble this time around.

Thank you! I appreciate all your help. I probably won’t be able to tell until Wednesday, so can we leave this open until we know for sure?
-
Absolutely. Everything seems correct on our end, and it will be nice to know if it’s fixed on your end as well.
-
Thank you, jackiedana. I assume that all my other settings in JetPack remain the same, or do I have to reset them?
-
You may wish to double check your settings, but as far as I know everything else should remain the same.

Hi, jackiedana,
This morning’s post was published, but it’s too early to tell if the problem was fixed, because Comments and Likes may come in over the next 12 hours.
However, I did get what was termed a “ping-back” from this morning’s post. I am not sure what a “ping-back” is, but it looks as though the IP address is the same as the temporary one that should have been replaced. Is this a clue?***

Thank you! -
My apologies: I should have made clear that the content of the “ping-back” is a blurb from my own post. I am not sure why I am getting this; I never did before.
Thank you, again. -
Thanks! Yes, now I understand. What is happening is that my old blog is linking to my new blog. I checked the IP address above (66.147.244.196), and it is not going to my website. It is definitely the temporary IP address I had, and not dishndat.me, which is where my subscribers should be directed. I do hope that you can fix this for me.

Okay, I see what you mean.
Because you had purchased dishndat.me on WordPress.com and then pointed the domain to your new hosting, all of your visitors to your WordPress.com address (http://dishndat.wordpress.com) will automatically be redirected to your new site.
If you don’t want that, you can update your WordPress.com primary domain to be the regular WordPress.com address rather than your custom domain here:
https://dishndat.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domainsIf you switch domains to the dishndat.wordpress.com there and update that setting, this should resolve the issue, but will also mean people visiting your old site will no longer be redirected to the new one.

Let me see if I understand:
Yes, I purchased dishndat.me on WordPress.com. Then, when I redid my site and moved to new hosting, I had someone at WordPress.com move my subscribers over as well so that they would be switched to the new site seamlessly — or so I was told! I definitely want all visitors to be directed to the new site. The old site should not even be available for viewing — again, that is what I was told would happen.
So, again, if I am understanding this, I do NOT want to change; I just want to reach my WordPress.com subscribers. When I look at my stats, I see that all my e-mail subscribers and almost all my WordPress.com subscribers have indeed been moved.
The e-mail subscribers are receiving e-mail notifications whenever I post, and they are directed to the correct website. The WordPress.com subscribers who should see my site in their Reader, are clearly not able to see the new site and are not being notified of new posts. That is still the primary issue. What do you think? I hope I’ve been clear!!!
