You will lose followers if you change Blog Web Address (URL)

Everything should be on your self-hosted site.

If you or anyone else goes to http://dishndat.wordpress.com, they will not see your WordPress.com site at all but will end up on your site at http://dishndat.me/ .

You shouldn’t be seeing anything new coming from 66.147.244.196/~dishndat/ but as what I assume is the underlying address for dishndat.me, it’s possible (that address is similar to your dishndat.wordpress.com address before, that was hidden by the custom domain). If you’re having trouble with that, you might check with your hosting provider.

OK, that sounds good. I tried it out, and you are absolutely right. I put http://dishndat.wordpress.com in my browser and ended up where I wanted to be!
That doesn’t solve my subscriber issue however. Do you think that BlueHost is the problem somehow?
I also wonder if I try Velvet Blues, if that would help? If I tell it to replace http://dishndat.wordpress.com with http://dishndat.me/ if that would solve the problem?
    What do you think?
    Thanks!

I’m sorry, I missed the part about the WordPress.com followers. If you know of specific users who subscribed on WordPress.com and have confirmed that they no longer can see your blog in their Reader, could you let me know what their usernames are, so I can take a look?

I know nothing about the Velvet Blues plugin, however, and cannot speak to how well it works or if it would benefit you in any way. I cannot imagine that you would need to do anything else with your URLs to make this work, however, as your Jetpack plugin is connecting the two sites.

Yes, that was the issue from the beginning. I didn’t realize that I had not been clear. I don’t know for certain that they are not seeing my website, but it is so uncharacteristic for there to be no Likes or Comments at all from fellow bloggers that I can’t imagine what else it could be.
I have even thought of sending a few of them e-mails to ask, but I was afraid that it would violate some kind of blogosphere etiquette to do that!
Here are two email addresses: http://alotonyourplate.wordpress.com; http://justnicestuff.wordpress.com. Again, I have NOT confirmed that they are no longer able to see my blog.
Thanks for the observations about Velvet Blues, too. Very helpful! I appreciate it.

I dug into this a little more and it looked like there were some Jetpack connection errors. We’ve sorted that out on our end, so now Jetpack shows as correctly connected. Your followers are all there and now should start receiving notifications/seeing your posts in their Reader as before.

Sorry for all of the confusion and inconvenience. It should all be sorted out for you now.

Thank you so much. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this! Can we keep the topic open just until we can confirm that the issue has been resolved? My next post is tomorrow, and I should see some response. Thank you, again, jackiedana.

Absolutely. Please let me know if you run into any further issues with this or if your followers don’t see your next post.

Well, no good news to report today, unfortunately. In fact, it looks worse than ever. I post three times a week, and, typically, I will have a couple of Likes or Comments from WordPress.com bloggers who follow me. In addition, I will get a couple of Likes or Comments from WordPress.com bloggers who do not follow me, and sometimes I pick up a new follower. There is still nothing but dead silence since January 15, when I launched the revised blog.
I suspect that something is still not connected properly.
I went to wordpress.com/my stats/ this morning, and found that I have zero followers.
I also found what looks like two active blogs: the old one, dishndat.wordpress.com, and the new one, dishndat.me. I wonder if they are somehow in conflict?
I am really getting incredibly discouraged. Thank you.

I see the following follower stats for your self-hosted, Jetpack-connected site:
    WordPress.com Followers (51) | Email-only Followers (9) | Pending (6)

Please confirm that these people are not receiving your notifications/seeing posts in their reader.

Also, could you please go to your Dashboard in your new self-hosted site and take a screenshot of what you see in the stats for your followers at the bottom of the stats page, and upload that to your WordPress.com media library at https://dishndat.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php for me?

    Take a Screenshot

I went to Jetpack/site stats/subscriptions;followers, and I see 60 Blog. When I click on Blog, it shows me 51 WordPress.com followers and 9 e-mail follower. However, there is neither a Pending category nor anyone pending. So, I do not see (6) Pending. I will take the screen shot now and send it to you. It looks like you may be on to something! Fingers crossed. Thank you.

Screenshot uploaded. I hope it’s what you meant.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, that’s fine. You are seeing the same thing I am (I just have a different view that shows pending followers who have not confirmed on their end).

Everything seems to be fine. I really can’t do anything further unless you get multiple reports of followers not receiving your blog notifications, and then I will have to dig into their accounts to see if it’s on your end or theirs.

  • Unknown's avatar

What should I do now? Should I contact some followers and ask?

  • Unknown's avatar

Everything appears in order now, and despite these issues, it looks like your blog traffic is about the same on your new blog as it was on your WordPress.com site, so you may be borrowing trouble. If you hear from any of your users that they don’t get notifications any longer that would be a good time to contact us again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, thank you very much for all your efforts. Enjoy your weekend!

  • Unknown's avatar

You’re very welcome! I really do hope this is resolved for you. Only time will tell. :)

I hope you have a great weekend as well.

  • Unknown's avatar

I am sorry to say that this issue has not been resolved. It is so unlikely that after I moved my blog, all my subscribers would just stop cold and no longer “like” or “comment.” This is incredibly distressing. Can you take another look? Clearly, there is something wrong somewhere. Thanks so much.

  • Unknown's avatar

Please forward to me the username or email address of users who have confirmed that they are not receiving notifications.

  • Unknown's avatar

How do I confirm that they are not receiving notifications? Is it bad form to contact them directly? I was trying to find some answers to my issue on the web, and I did see something about having to notify subscribers that they have to re-subscribe. Thanks for your continued help.
