"you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available"

Can someone from Automattic explain the reason for this policy?

I can’t think of a legitimate argument for prohibiting users from reclaiming their own old usernames (and/or subdomains) as long as its still the same physical account, which should have a record of having previously used a given username or subdomain.

Clearly there was some sort of policy discussion, since WordPress will allow reclamations within 30 days, so I’d really like someone who works over there to explain why that’s the policy, and not something else.

I was going to come back to using WordPress fulltime, and upgrade to a paying plan, but without being able to reclaim my previous username and subdomain, I question giving the company my money.

    Thanks.

(I’m not interested in random theories from users. I’ve been trying for awhile to get an explanation for this policy, to no avail. So I’m trying here.)

  • Hi –

I know that this has been a frustrating experience. If you want a refund for your upgrades let us know. Otherwise, there is nothing else that we can do regarding the subdomain and username as it is well outside the 30 day window at this point.
