YOUTUBE EMBED CHANGES 18 March 2010
-
This morning, youtube’s method for embedding changed. I figured it out and managed to embed a video on my page. But then when I go to play it on my page I get a message on the window which says “Embedding disabled by request – watch on Youtube.” So we really can’t embed at all. Who wants a bunch of empty blank windows on our pages? Can you fix this with Youtube please? Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t see any evidence that the method for embedding changed. I just watched a video on your blog, in fact.
What probably happened is that the owner of a specific video decided that they didn’t want it to be embeddable. That’s nothing specific to do with your blog, or with WordPress. -
-
“Embedding disabled by request – watch on Youtube.”
The above statment means the person that owns the Youtube acct disabled embedding.

You didn’t look hard enough. If you go to my page entitled Shelter Shortfall Letter to Bill Clinton, there are three videos embedded there.
The one entitled Rolling Stone – Gimme Shelter – Journey to Babylon was embedded a few days ago and plays back on my page.
The one entitled Haiti – The First Rain in the Camps was embedded this morning and plays back on my page.
The one entitled 8 Feared Dead in Haiti Floods was also embedded this morning. This does not play back on my page. It shows a message that youtube wants us to go to youtube to watch it.
If you click youtube on any of the other videos, it will take you to a youtube page where the embedding information has been changed.
If you try to copy the embed into the video embed button on wordpress, nothing appears in the window.
If you try to copy the embed into the page itself then a long line of code appears on the visual.
I am telling you that the embed method for embedding has changed. This embed method has changed for ALL youtube videos.
Rather than telling me what you think probably happened, please test it out yourself.
Speculation is not helping. I need to embed more videos. I need to find out how please.
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with the wordpress people?
-
MODERATOR: Please do not tell me how to read English. I am trying to tell you that the embed method has changed for ALL videos. Try it yourself please. Then get back to me.

I’m went to the youtube site and and found ” 8 feared dead in Haiti floods
It’s Reuters video and no embed code has been provided for it on the youtube page.
I created a new post in my blog and used the URL below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6-XjfGEQEg
The video is working on my test blog. -
Here is another way of looking at what I am trying to tell you. Go to my page entitled Shelter Shortfall — Letter to Bill Clinton.
This is the code for Haiti – The First Rains in the Camps:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJsrh6xtmU4&feature=youtu.be]
Now go to the youtube page for that same video. Press embed. This is the code that they now give you:
<object width=”480″ height=”385″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/CJsrh6xtmU4&hl=en_US&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/CJsrh6xtmU4&hl=en_US&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”480″ height=”385″></embed></object>
If you enter that code into the wordpress video button the result will be a blank space.
If you enter that code directly onto the wordpress page the result will be that the code appears on the page, but no embed.
Understand now? You tube has changed the embed method.

@manydrums
Perhaps you are confused about how to do what I did. We do not use embed codes we use the the URL from the address barI used the URL from the address bar. I followed these instructions >
Select the From URL tab. Paste the YouTube video’s URL into the URL field. Then click the Insert into Post button.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/I have the video up and running and you don’t, so perhaps you should use the instructions I did and see if that solves your problem.
-
I understand you clearly.Please read what I posted. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/youtube-embed-changes-18-march-2010?replies=10#post-443974
If you want this video to be up and running on your blog do what I did. It’s that simple.
-
TIMETHIEF: I went to your blog and couldn’t find the video to which you refer.
I copied the code you claimed worked on your blog and pasted it into my blog. Only a link appears on my page.
Then I enclosed it in square brackets. Same results.
I tried it in the wordpress embed button. I tried it directly onto the page.
The only thing I can think of is that I have used too many videos on my blog.
-
I said: The video is working on my test blog.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/youtube-embed-changes-18-march-2010?replies=12#post-443970The too many videos idea does not fly .. forget it. Please stop chasing round and round in circles and please just do as I did. Just take several deep breaths and then just do what I did. Follow the instructions provided in the support documentation.
Use the the URL from the browser address bar and not the embed code. This is the URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6-XjfGEQEg
Select the From URL tab. Paste the YouTube video’s URL into the URL field. Then click the Insert into Post button.

TIMETHIEF: Perhaps you are confused by what I am telling you. I have tried using the URL from the address bar. Same result for me.
Before there used to be a simplified URL in a youtube window to the right of the screen. That is gone now.
Now there is only an embed button. When you press it it gives you a long code like the example I posted above.
What part of I have followed your instructions do you not understand? You do not understand at all. You are assuming that this is about something I have not done or something which I have done incorrectly.
It is not.
As I said before, the only thing I can think of is that I have used too many videos in my blog.
-
TIMETHIEF. Leave it. I have done what you have suggested. It does not work for me.
The too many videos does not fly in what way exactly? Can you give some support for your theory please?
-
Free WordPress.com blogs come with 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images. You have only been here 2 months. I assume that if your upload space had been exceed you would see that on your Media Library page and if you had seen that you would have said so. Here’s where to look to see if that’s so > http://manydrums.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
If you feel that there is something “broken” in your blog then you can contact Staff directly. They have backend access to blogs and we volunteers of course don’t.

It’s worth noting that the code you get from the Embed button on a Youtube video page is not what you need for embedding at WordPress.com. The different use of the e-word (embed) at the two sites can cause confusion.
I’m not sure whether that’s manydrums’ problem. But forums threads aren’t just for those who start them, and the note about embedding may be useful for those who find this thread later. Just get the URL from youtube and give it to WordPress.com as described in the WordPress.com documentation (see tt’s links above). -
Sorry about my misunderstanding. Now that I have more information, I see your problem.
As timethief said, this code is also working for me.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJsrh6xtmU4&feature=youtu.be]We will need to take a look at your post and make sure the correct code was posted. Please contact us from the form so we can try to find out what’s causing the error.

Guess what? Its working now. Thank you all for your offers of support. I don’t know what happened. I copied and pasted what you gave me and tried everything. Sometimes things go that way.
