Youtube link not embedding
-
When I look at my site in the Customizer my Youtube video looks embeded. However, when I view it from a separate page or on my phone, logged in to wordpress or not, it only shows the link. I want to be sure the embeded video shows, not just a link. Please help!

Hello @savoringsingleblog
Here’s the official support guide that might help you properly embed YouTube videos on your WordPress.COM site:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you for sharing! However, I have already read through the guide and couldn’t find a solution. The link is not hyperlinked, is on its own line, shows as embedded in the page, but will only show as the link on my home page.
I assume the theme supports video posts as it also shows embedded while in the customized, but not once published.

That link doesn’t look right to me. Shouldn’t it say https://www.youtube.com/watch?somethingsomething ??

Great point! Went to Youtube on my computer (not just on my phone) and got the embed link….it doesn’t show anything from my home page. If you click onto the blog post, it shows in the post, but not from my Home page. I wanting to see it on my home page….any ideas?

@savoringsingleblog I suppose it’s the theme that is doing that. Because the front page is set to show the list of blog posts with excerpts and I think YouTube embeds are not supported on excerpts.
So try this:
1. Go to My Site(s) → Customize(Beside the Themes option) or just click here: https://wordpress.com/customize/. This will open the site Customizer.
2. On the sidebar of the Customizer, click Content Options.
3. On the Blog Display section, select Full Post.
4. Now see if it shows the YouTube embedded video or the YouTube link. Now, to solve this:
I would suggest you add some text contents before the YouTube embedded video. So that the post excerpt feature can pull that instead of the video. -
Thank you! I had removed the extra text in fear that it was part of the problem. Added some back in and changed the post type to standard. It didn’t work. I had it set on video and have tried each one since…still no change. I have cleared cookies and made sure I was seeing an updated page each time (not just an old pre loaded page) and still no embeded youtube. I know this theme supports it as there is a Video Post Option. I’m at a loss as to what else to do. Any other ideas?

That did work! Went into the customized for the entire site, not just the page/post, switched it to full and voila!
Is there a best of both worlds though, because I do want excerpts for my non-video posts….but now seems it’s either full article or just image.
Thanks for the help!!!!
