Youtube not embedding

So im trying to embedd a youtube video on one of my blogs, but its not working. Just a blank space where the video is supposed to be.

Ive already read this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/video-not-embedding?replies=6#post-591663 and i had a look at the gigya code, tried a shortcode but i couldet get it to work eighter, same error.

Ive also tried to embedd an older youtube video (thinking maybe the one i first tried was to “fresh” for WP) but that resulted in teh same problem, blank space.

Please copy and paste the entire code/YouTube URL you tried to insert. For the purpose of these forums only, please insert the code between backticks ( ` ) (not apostrophes!) otherwise we won’t be able to see the code.

@teachergoesbacktoschool: That’s not a video. That’s a user channel. Embedding only works for videos. Please follow these instructions to get an URL that you can use in WordPress.com:

That code works perfectly fine for me when I try to copy-paste it into a post.

That code (with the a href…) would not work.

Its very strange then, ive tried writing a new post and just paste that code in to the post, still nothing happens. It has happend before that certain posts got “messed up” so that they could not take youtube embedds, but now ive tried to make three posts on the blog all with the [youtube=] command and nothing will show up…

I blame the easter bunny…

Now i tried to embedd another youtube movie on my other blog (http://krillelille.se) and i got the very same error in the source code as you got:

<div></a></div>

It dosent matter which blog i use, what youtube url i use or what browser i use (ive tried it with FF and Chrome)

I also logged in and out of my WP.com account and tried again, still the same error. Nothing wrong with the url im posting since i can just click the hyperlink i wrote as a backup in the post and im then redirected straight to youtube and the correct video,

I found the problem, and its very stupid.

When i copied the link i did so in the url bar in Chrome. It only says: http://www.youtube.com in the adress bar, but when i copy the adress chrome puts a hyperlink format on the text ive copied. So when i pasted the link in to the WP editor it bacame a hyperlink and not just text, thus the [youtube=] prefix dident work since it was a link within the link…

I bet its some stupid formatting setting i have to change in google chrome. But i hope maybe this could serve as a helpful tip for people trying to do the very same thing in Chrome.

so: Doing a copy past on the adress bar in Google Chrome formats your copied link in to a hyperlink which will not work with the [youtube=] code. You have to select the text you just copied in to the WP editor and press the button to break the link in the text.

IT’s not something you did. It didn’t used to work this way, now it does. I don’t know if WordPress or YouTube made the change, but it happened a couple of weeks ago.
