Youtube pictures do not show up as pictures on my post
-
I put three YouTube URLs onto my post using the correct procedure, and yet, the posted article shows only one of the Youtube videos as a rectangular tv box. The other two Youtube videos are just in the plain old URL form, but not the tv “box” look.
Why? I re-did it three times thinking that I had done something wrong, but no. Always, only the first URL shows up as a tv box.What went wrong?

Doesn’t look like “correct procedure”. Correct procedure is this (in the html editor):
[youtube=URL HERE]
-
Well, what I did for the 2nd and 3rd was exactly what I did for the 1st video, though.
I clicked the video box on the New Post page.
I clicked by URL
I pasted in the URL of the corresponding video.
I clicked Insert Into Post.I do not see where I went wrong. 8-(
I am not sure what your answer means, but I guess it means that the URL should have those words in it. I will do it again.

I just did the second and third video URLs again but still they show up just as URLs and not as pictures in the first URL/picture.
I followed the exact same steps.
Could something be wrong with the software? There was no difference in what I did. Maybe there is a difference in what the HTML says, but no difference in what I actually did. Oh well.-Lk

Do not follow the steps you have been using. Several people have reported problems with YouTubes lately using methods OTHER than the single one that never fails: the one panos gave you. Use that and no other one, regardless of what has worked in the past.
[youtube=URL] always works.
-
Ok. I get the YouTube URL from the Address field at the top of the web page. Then I do what I outlined in the post above this one. But again, in another post, not even the URLs showed up, let alone the picture.
I am not clear on what Panos says to do but I am figuring that it should be simply the URL following the youtube=

Here below is what I have in the Editor. I have [youtube=URL]. Something must be wrong with the software. Truly, I have done this over and over.

Do NOT get the URL from the Address field at the top of the web page. Never do that. That is the source of the problem.
ALWAYS get the URL from clicking the Share button and getting the “pure” URL with no “&feature=channel” etc. In these particular cases, you can get the correct URL by deleting the & and everything after it other than the ]
-
I just tried it again, in the HTML editor, and nothing came out in the post. Not the Youtube picture box nor the URL.
And in the previous post of Major General Paul Vallely speaking in three videos, the first video showed up as a tv box, but the second and third did not, yet I followed the same instructions.
I am left thinking that there might be something wrong with the software/template. ¿

The support documents really should be more clear about this. It’s a common problem. People come to a video in multiple different ways, and the URL in the address field includes info about where they came from (just because YouTube is set up that way, it’s a peculiarity). So the same video could have eight or nine different URLs. The only one that works is the one you get if you click the Share Button. You’ll see it’s the same as the above with the & and all the stuff afterwards stripped out.
-
I am feeling so demoralized right now, Raincoaster. I followed your instructions and got the URL for the video in the SHARE box and then clicked onto that media link in the post, and then on the by URL link, and then I pasted in the link that I copied from the SHARE box…..
and when I published it, it came out with no tv picture box and not even the URLs.
I am going to quit.

I forgot to paste in what I have in my HTML editor for that post of Janie Cutler and Edith Piaf singing the same song. Here it is below. =Lk

For whatever reason, that’s still the wrong code. It should be:
not
I see now that it was my mistake: I told you to just cut off the & and everything after. That once worked, but now apparently it doesn’t, because they’ve changed the ? to a #!. So just take the exact code from the Share box and ignore what I said above. My apologies for the confusion.
I’ve tested the new code from the Share box, and it works.
-
Raincoaster nono. I thought that you meant ”Copy what is in the Share box“ and that is what I did. I did not delete anything; it did not seem that you were telling me to do so. I had the feeling that you were trying to explain to me WHY the URL in the address field was longer. I appreciated that info but it did not confuse me.
All of the bad luck I have been having has arisen even when I copy from the Share box.
Before I was told to copy from the Share box, I was copying from the Address field, but then In the Maj. General Valelly post, why did the first video show up as a picture box but the second and third videos did not?
I do think that there is a problem in the software, because if there is not, then I am one day away from the Looney Bin. :-)

I have no idea why what’s in the Share box for you is different from the Share box for me. It should be identical. You can always fudge the code to replicate the format with the ? and see what happens.
I can’t say why the first one worked, because you’ve only posted the code you used for the second and third ones.
-
Raincoaster, here are the URLs for the General Vallely videos. The first/top one is the only one that ended up showing as a tv box. The other two did not. They just showed up as URLs. -LK

@rain: No mistake of yours – cutting off the & and everything after is correct!
@Lorna: I don’t know where you’re getting those URLs with the #! . The correct shortcodes for the three videos are these:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqvCg2JAZF4]
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrPb0Kf9cgQ]

Panos here are screen shots of where I got the Maj. Gen. video URLs. I copied what I saw in the SHARE box, and then followed directions as described in the Support section.

Panos, I got the URLs for the songs “No Regrets” and “Non, Je Ne Retrette Pas” in the same way and followed the same Support instructions.
I did not change any of the HTML in the SHARE boxes. Raincoaster thought that he/she had given me wrong advice, but she/he did not and I followed her initial instructions of “copy what is in the Search box.” I understood that the other part about deleting the tail end of the URL to be a further explanation of YouTube protocol, which I appreciated because it explains a lot of oddities. :-)

As rain said, “for whatever reason, that’s still the wrong code”: the right URLs are those with the questionmark. What browser and version are you using?
-
The correct shortcodes for the three videos that you must enter into the HTML editor are as Panos said above:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqvCg2JAZF4]
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrPb0Kf9cgQ]
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_1k3sF_gnE]You simply switch to the HTML editor and type ONLY the code Panos provided into it and that’s it. However, If you have followed instructions and have done that and have not experienced success then the time has come for you to go directly to Staff. Here’s the link for contacting them > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ indeed as you are having so many problems perhaps all of your support issues ought to be directed to Staff.
