YouTube public videos stop playing
-
Hi,
I’m having difficulty here at http://mudge.wordpress.com with public YouTube videos. They played for some time, but have stopped; with that frustrating “We’re sorry, this video is no longer available.” message.
My browser is Firefox 2, running on Windows XP Home SP2.
I read some closed threads on this issue, and as a result did some surgery on my most recent posts (total: about 4 videos out of the 15 posts), to use the -more- function.
But the videos are still not playing.
Cleared FF cache; shut down. No change.
Oddly, the videos all play fine from IE7, which leads me to hope, fervently, that this is a local issue with my Firefox instance.
Anyone have a recommendation (besides switching to IE7? ;-)
Thanks. –mudge

Go back to Youtube and see if the videos are still there. The are pulled and disappear all the time for a myriad of reasons – many times it’s copyright violations.

If it says the video is no longer available, that usually means it’s been pulled. You will have to find the video uploaded in another version.
I’ve never run across that message when the video has still been available. Please provide a link to one video that’s doing this.

Hi, Raincoaster,
I’m thinking that this is a YouTube/Firefox thing on my pc.
When I just tried to connect there, something I do frequently, I got a 500 internal server error message.
Ugh.
The video is still live. I can play it from IE7 on my pc, just get the no longer available message in Firefox.

Thanks for your assistance.

Works fine for me on FF. Can we get a link to a non-working video in your blog? Like, the post URL?

Hello, Raincoaster and thesacredpath,
The link I left above was not working in firefox, but it always worked in IE7.
The fact that I couldn’t connect to YouTube at all without a 500 internal server error led me ultimately to Mozilla.org.
Eventually (it took several tries) per the forum there, I uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe Flash, cleared my Firefox cache numerous times, and just now finally was able to once again play the video in my site.
Thanks sincerely for your interest and responsiveness, and for helping me verify that it was a local and not a general issue.
