Youtube URL Links to Wrong Video

  • Unknown's avatar

In my blogs I post links to a few of my videos on YouTube. In the last week or so the link to the video I have posted in the blog links to the very latest video I have uploaded to YouTube even though the latest video has a different URL. The URL in my blog remains correct, but the video that it links to is my latest YouTube video, not video of the URL. I have tried replacing the correct URL many times. In one of my blogs I eventually got the link to work correctly, but not in another blog.

I wonder why there is a connection between YouTube and WordPress that allows YouTube to embed my latest video in some of my blogs.

This is the link to my blog:

    Choco, The Adventurous Capybara

    The wrong video is:

    Capybara Alarm Calls

When I first discovered this error it was the previous “latest” video that appeared in the blog in place of the video whose URL I had given.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I noticed also at your link that the video ‘Capybara Alarm Calls’ is a video ‘playlist’ ~ when embedding a video or playlist, the best way is to choose which video and get that ‘singular’ link not simply the link for your ‘latest videos’ as once ’embedded’ in your page it will ‘link’ how it was originally shared.

You also have the option of ‘sharing a playlist’ from anywhere in that list.. that is once again the option at youtube before you copy the link to embed it.

    Hope this makes sense..

For example, I have a playlist of a certain music band at one of my blogs.. and yes; if they add a video to this playlist it updates at my blog as well.. I embedded it via the url and ‘not to start at a particular song’.

So, if I follow you correctly and you don’t want it to be updated then you would need to either share a single video or a playlist to start at the video you choose.

Here’s a picture for more clarification of how to get the ‘code’ for a youtube video.. you have a box to tick for how it’s ‘shared’ ie: with or without playlist and if playlist; ‘current video’ is an option.

Here’s more on wordpress.com and using youtube video’s in posts.

    hope it works for you.

Here’s a picture for more clarification of how to get the ‘code’ for a youtube video..

The best option is copy & paste the video URL, as mentioned in the support page:

    Embedding with a URL

To quickly embed a YouTube video, simply copy the video’s URL from your web browser’s address bar while viewing the video:

Usually, perhaps.. but at her link and description of her problem it is a playlist… (and at the blog page) and she did not want it ‘playing’ her ‘latest video’ from her youtube playlist

The URL in my blog remains correct, but the video that it links to is my latest YouTube video, not video of the URL.

Forgive me if I’m wrong @capybaraworld… The video you were referring to as being ‘wrong’ is also the 1st in the ‘playlist’ entitled ‘Uploads from Capybara World’ ~ so obviously the ‘1st video would play 1st regardless’..?

I will unsubscribe since galois has even repeated a link I already gave you on embedding a youtube video at wordpress…

    All the best.

Playlists are very different, as to the picture I posted: It was to help clarify sharing a video as part of a playlist A: to be sure you are viewing the video you want to ‘show first’ or B: from the ‘beginning’ of the playlist. I’ve always preferred using the code from that section anyway, as dealing with sharing youtube playlists often: it is failproof.

Hope it works out for you @capybaraworld.

    Sasha,

Thank you very much indeed for all your help. And for taking so much trouble to explain the situation to me. I had no idea that there was a WordPress recommended method. And I was not familiar with the YouTube playlist option. But I followed your instructions and it worked, so I am very, very grateful.

    Thanks very much,

    Liz

So glad it worked for you Liz, and I didn’t mind the going through the explanation of it all for you, as I post a lot of video’s and playlists so I like to share what works best for them.

Thanks for letting me know, and ‘anytime’… all the best :)
