YouTube videos have all resized themselves? Help!

    Hi everyone!

I use Windows Live Writer to post to my wordpress.com blog and have always inserted YouTube videos at 4:3 and then centered them.

Tonight, all of a sudden my videos are all widescreen (great!) however any that were inserted using Windows Live Writer run over the right hand side of the page. It is as if they stay centered like they are still 4:3, even though they are now 16:9. (They are too far over to the right when they should be in the middle). The only way I have found to quickly fix this is opening the post in WLW and setting the still apparently 4:3 embed to Inline instead of Center, which then makes the videos fit with my 500 width columns of text perfectly.

Can anybody offer a reason that this has happened all of a sudden? Such a pain changing them one at a time!

Several people have reported this at WordPress.com (in future, please type out the URL of your blog, starting with http so we can see it, or link your name to your blog under Profile).

What method of embedding are you using? Is it just the imported ones, or ones you’ve added since you came here? If so, are you using the shortcode? My suspicion is that YouTube changed something on their end. You can see they’ve been tweaking if you go to the site.

Report it to staff via the Help button on your dashboard. They’ll need to know.

Apologies, my name should now be linked to the site.

As I said, every centered video I uploaded using WLW is now running off the edge of the central column to the right.

However, any videos I inserted via wordpress.com (also centered) BEFORE I started using WLW have gone widescreen but managed to position themselves in the right place.

Both times, I simply used the “insert video” option and pasted the URL: I am not that confident using shortcodes and the 4:3 videos centered never really bothered me.

Widescreen looks a lot better now but I wish I could have had control over the change: it seems to have happened overnight!

It should also be noted that WLW is still showing videos as 4:3 when I embed them. The only way to make them show properly is by setting them to Inline instead of Center.

An example of what I mean can be seen here:

GAME REVIEW – Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)

(Trailer is half way down the page. Left hand edge of video is where 4:3 used to start, but now it is 16:9 so runs off to the right hand side…)
