YouTube videos play and then do not play!

    Problem: YouTube videos do not play.
    I copied the URL from the SHARE box under the YouTube video and followed the WordPress instructions for getting that URL onto the post.

    After getting the URL into the post, I tested the URLs/links out. They worked just fine. I clicked once and the videos began.

    Problem: If I go back a second time several minutes later (not immediately after), the videos do not play. This is across the board for all the YouTube videos that I have inserted into my posts. They work when I check them immediately after publishing them, and then they do not work later on. I went so far as to re-do several videos just to make sure. Those, too, were just fine when I immediately checked after publishing…….. but when I returned after, say, five minutes, those videos would not/do not play! They give the impression of being live links because they show a movement of images, but no video plays.

    What could be wrong here? I followed the instructions carefully about using the URL in the SHARE box, hitting the Media link, hitting BY URL, and then publishing.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Of course I did paste the URL into the box before hitting the Insert/Publish button.

    I just now went and checked the last five or six Youtube videos to see if they would play…. and none of them plays, yet each one played when I tested it out after publishing.

    This is bad.

    I went to the front page of your blog and with my Firefox 3.6.6. browser I worked downward through your posts. I clicked 4 youtubes and each and every one loaded for me and played. Then I stropped as that was enough to convince me that whatever the reason maybe that you cannot load them or view them there’s nothing wrong with the youtubes.

    You could have browser issues and in that case whenever anything goes wonky what we do is log out of wordpress.com, clear our browser cache and cookies, and login again. Sometimes we do that more than once. Need instructions? They are here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

    If that doesn’t work then what we do is check to make sure our Flash is updated. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

    If we are still not successful then we file a support ticket here and include the following details as well as any others we can provide.

    Every time support Staff deal with an issue they need to know:

    1. your browser
    2. your browser version
    3. your FULL blog address of the blog in question (not the blog name, the actual url that begins http:// Please note: there is no “www” in any wordpress.com url)
    4. your FULL username
    5. your role (Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor)
    6. the email address that you registered at wordpress.com with for the blog in question
    7. and a very good description of the exact problem

    * I did:
    * I saw:
    * I expected:

    8. If the problem is with a specific page, post or image, video, etc. then Staff needs the URL for whichever is in question.

    9. If the problem occurred when following instruction in support documentation then a link to it is helpful.

    Relying only on email and not having a ticketing system would simply result in Staff getting vague and sketchy descriptions, so they have to keep dragging out ALL of the relevant information by sending repeated emails to the you. Only then, can they can start examining solutions.

    I reply: This is not an example of ”My Youtube video won’t play.“ It’s an example of ”My YouTube video plays once right after I publish but not, say, five minutes after.”

    I did the Reboot and also Clear the Cache just for good luck, but neither worked. If it were a browser problem, the videos would not play at all, but they did.

    I am stumped on this one. I might go to the Support staff. I think I’ll ask my friends if they can view my YouTube vids. If so, then the problem will be just something here in my computer that defies my logic. If they cannot view the YouTube videos, then I will resort to Staff and fill out that I did, I saw, I expected again

    Thank you for checking my videos. At least I know that they opened for you.

    I just now went to YouTube and clicked on a bunch of videos; all of them played immediately.

    They only have this irregular “play-don’t play” on the WordPress platform.

    I am going to go to WordPress support and do the I did/I expected/I saw.

    I just now tested out the most recent five or six YouTube videos, and now they all turn on. I waited a minute or so and then clicked all of then anew, and they all went on, so whatever was happening previously has stopped happening. Go figure! :-)

    Timethief, yes, a while ago I did report the oddities to Staff. I gave all the info you mentioned plus even some probably unnecessary stuff about my iMac.

    I even took out the two batteries in my wireless mouse just in case they were losing power, but of course the new batteries made no difference, especially since the older batteries were clicking on all those YouTube videos on the YouTube site. :-) :-)

    Thanks again, Timethief. All’s well that ends well.

    @lorna, I just watched the video in the post you referenced clear through, then cleared my cache so that the file was not on my computer, restarted my browser and then watched the video again after 5 minutes with no problems.

    Lorna, you have a computer problem, probably a Temp Files or memory problem. Do a full Cookie Dance and you’ll probably find that the videos play with no interruption at all, no matter how many times you play them.

    Log out, clear browser cache and cookies, restart computer FULLY. That usually fixes these YouTube issues.

    YouTube has done some changes recently that make it much more memory-intense.

    Sacred Path and Raincoaster…. actually I did clear my cache but I did not log out. Wow…. this would be the first time I would have to actually log out to see a video again, but I will remember this. I have 2 gigs of memory and this (below). Are 2 gigs not enough, do you think? I might go and buy more memory…..

    Model Name: iMac
    Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
