Zero to Hero: Day Eighteen

    @harrihuru I had a problem figuring this out at first too. I found this in the support pages;

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-plus-profile/

    Not surprisingly it worked :)

    Thanks,

This forces me to link my Google+ Profile and I can’t figure out a way how to choose my Google+ Page instead. It will show my Personal Google+ Profile in the end of my post for readers to connect and that’s not what I’m trying to do because all my posts will be published on the Page among other things. Am I doing something wrong or is this option not available?

I only have a google+ profile, not sure that there is an option for following pages, you might be able to do it with an image widget, linking the picture to your page and people could follow from there. I’m still new at this.

You might try the support forums.

Ah, I like this! I’m quite enthusiastic about social networking! I am an active user of Twitter, Instagram and Goodreads. Links/widgets are on my blog. I like finding bloggers on different social networking sites. I like learning more about them, beyond their blog posts.

    Thanks doughhippensteel,

I managed to do it as you recommended. It’s not as nice as e.g. “Follow me on Twitter” widget but the Image widget does the job. It most likely is possible to refine it and will try to do that with more time. Thanks again.

Should have showed more appreciation at least by spelling doughippensteel correctly…

After following and joining in this discussion, I completed today’s task by setting up a Flicker account overnight, managing to upload first few photos and connecting Flickr with my blog. I’d be happy to know what you think: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maraeastern/

If I am to do this, I need to lose something. The original idea of the blog with a pseudonym was to be completely open there, and retain some kind of safety from searches by employers, etc, by not using my name. So I have a twitter account and facebook account in my own name, and a separate blog where I reveal things about myself I would not tweet. So I need to stop psychoanalysing myself, or limit it, on my blog, and have one internet presence- but the psychoanalysis was the original point.

What posts would I delete, to stop a work colleague doing a google for my real name finding them? Those are the ones where the comments are most useful. And- which of my essays about politics or life in general would reveal more about me, incidentally, than I might want?

Or I could start tweeting and facebooking as Clare, but that is a lot more effort and time.

I learn’t a huge lesson today, one I am still trying to fix :-(

I have a wordpress account from a while back that is a little ‘alternative’.

Unbeknown to me, the twitter account I set up to belong to this blog, not the other had linked somehow to etsy and the Pinterest account I had linked to the ‘alternative’ account & there are over 200 tweets unbeknown to me with material I really would rather not have on my twitter….I can’t cringe enough about this and deleting the tweets is proving to be a problem, I deleted all 200+ of them but they popped up again :-( I think I need to close the account.

But truly a lesson learn’t. These media sites seem to connect up together sometimes without obvious approval so be more mindful than I was please

I’ve enjoyed reading comments about social media – especially those not enamored. I am on many (not Pinterest or Instagram) but it does seem a time gobbling affliction with strangers and cyberspace. I know there’s good to be found, but with the law of unintended consequences in mind, I shall approach slowly and with care.

I went through the lively discussion above & decided to create my FB profile, then I created a community page about ‘Lenzexperiments’. Lastly, I set the page to public….I haven’t connected to any of my friends, I don’t think I’ll do that quite yet… I don’t know the pros and cons of doing this yet…only some time and feedback will tell…..not sure how I feel about this yet…..

Is this approach still social networking? Will it work? I don’t feel comfortable with PinInterest….

blognullI joined Pinterest a couple of days ago and really like it so far. I have tried to share a couple of posts, but not too much, and in today’s blog I mentioned I’d joined and linked to my account so I hope people will take a look.

I also linked my post to another blog I follow on Bloglovin. I was wondering though – do pingbacks work the same outside of wordpress? I mean, will this blogger have a comment on her post that I linked to it? I will tell her anyway, but it would be great if I could be sure it would happen all the time that someone would get notified!

Also, any comments on my blog would be gratefully appreciated – today’s post was a bit different from my previous photo-journo style blogs, it was much more personal. And it’s why I am not sure I want to share it with friends on Facebook, though I have just created a Facebook page for my blog, so we’ll see how that works out! At the moment there’s not a lot there!

    Happy Day 18 everyone!

Hi,Michelle Weber. I already share my blog post with publicize. Please gave me tips for sharing with twitter. How could a irresistible format for twitter? so your followers can click it and read it + retweet about it.
The second question, Can I share my new blog post automatically to Reddit, StumbleUpon and Digg?
    thx

Playing catch-up again. I already have all the social media accounts linked to my blog. I enjoy giving my readers options when sharing my content in social media. :)

My blog is about uniting all my passions in one place, what social media would you choose in my place? http://ideaswitch.wordpress.com/

If I have to create multiple accounts, it would be pretty hard to maintain. Also, some information on a good strategy to attract new people to your social media page in the beginning would be nice. As English is not my native language, inviting my friends is not the best way to go and if it’s just my readers it will be kinda empty :?

Ok – so I’m doing a bit of Zero to Hero catch up this weekend and this one caught my eye. I’m already linked to Twitter; and recently figured out “the point” of Google+ (firstly – it helped me comment through Disqus on blogs that weren’t on the same platform as me; second I figured out I could post my blog posts there (although I haven’t yet figured out how to make those public – so they only go to my blog circle); I’ve been fiddling around with Tumblr for the past two weeks as one of my goals this new year was to work out Gifs – so I’ve now linked to that and will see if I automatically post to that.

And – I have a Pinterest link – so I think I’m happy on this front.

Thanks for this one! I enjoyed reading the stream of thought.

I’ve also signed up for HootSuite now, as that had been on the back burner for curiousity for me ever since I tried a Twitter Party and failed miserably, and someone mentioned things like HootSuite help manage conversation streams. We shall see. Only so many hours in a day :)

I activated twitter, linkedin and G+ :) Not yet ready for facebook. How path works actually? Don’t you think too many social network will create illusion of someone’s personality?

@kraukraukdi, you can’t set up Publicize to share to Digg or StumbleUpon, but if you have sharing buttons at the bottoms of your posts, you can use those. To set up sharing buttons, head to Settings >> Sharing in your dashboard.
