Zero to Hero: Day Four

  • Unknown's avatar

NOTE: Zero to Hero forum threads will close after five days. If you’re just starting out, welcome! Feel free to visit a more recent thread to say hello, ask questions, or seek feedback. Happy blogging!

Howdy, Day Four! New day, new task.

Today, we start engaging with the larger blogging community — a critical piece of what makes blogging fun, and an invaluable part of building an audience. Full details on the main Zero to Hero page.

Use this space as a place to ask questions and seek feedback from your fellow bloggers, or just to talk about blogging, why you’re here, and how your month is going.

Note: please refrain from posting links to your blog unless you’re seeking feedback on something — this is a place for discussion. Give your posts the “zerotohero” tag to enable other participants to find you. Given the number of participants and length of these threads, we are deleting comments that are simply links to make it easier for participants to have real discussions with one another.

The Daily Post has a weekly open thread on Sundays called “Community Pool,” for peer feedback. If you’re looking for general feedback on your blog or feedback unrelated to this challenge, please visit that thread.

Now send out the welcome wagons!

This is a great task for me. Time is short and my posts take a long time to write – I feel perpetually daunted when trying to engage with so many fabulous bloggers. On a plus point, I have already found some great blogs via this challenge. Looking forward to putting the time in to find some more.

Hi i do this challenge on my self hosted site, is there a way in witch i can access the reader from there or is the only possibility to use the wordpress.com site to access the reader?

  • Unknown's avatar

i seriously don’t understand what we have to do? I am very brand new to the concept of blogging.

@smitechy, the Reader is WordPress.com-only. If you’d like, it’s possible to sign up for a WordPress.com account without starting a blog. Alternatively, you can do a version of today’s task by following five new blogs anywhere in the blogosphere — try clicking around the blogrolls of sites you already read, and see where that takes you. I’ll update the assignment details to specify this; thanks for your question!

@confessionsofamuslimoutcast, the Reader is the place on WordPress.com where you can search all WordPress.com blogs by topic/tag. Today, we want you to explore five topics and read some of the blogs you find there.

Here are full details on using the Reader: http://learn.wordpress.com/get-comfy/#reader

@confessionsofamuslimoutcast they would like us to go find 5 other bloggers that we actually enjoy reading. That is what I get from it. I may be wrong; but I am sure that I am right on this one.

  • Unknown's avatar

Today, I posted on a unique tag: I am the only one to use it in the last two months.

  • Unknown's avatar

@clareflourish, it’ll be interesting to see who finds you!

  • Unknown's avatar

What is the strangest blog you have followed?

I am looking for something completely different and suggestions will be investigated.

  • Unknown's avatar

Edited the main page to add a bit more detail on the Reader/task, along with tips for non-WordPress.com bloggers. Thanks, all!

I’ve already been doing this. I guess that means I’m ahead.
    :-)

It’s surprising how specific your searches can be. I just watched We’re The Miller’s (don’t judge me too harshly), keyed it in, and someone had already blogged about it.

I haven’t gotten my head around just how large the blogging community is.

Any tips on how to keep up with all your favourite blogs? I’m getting a pretty long list.

  • Unknown's avatar

I must be psychic, as I was looking at my reader earlier and ended up following a few blogs that I liked the look of.

    P.s. Cteavin, I loved ‘We’re the Millers’!

I find today’s task a very interesting one. So four new blogs to follow, two about running, one about food, and one about exploring the outdoors. Still working on finding the last one.

  • Unknown's avatar

Very interesting challenge! Will add new topics to my reader and try to reach out to more travelers out there :)

  • Unknown's avatar

I love checking out other blogs because it’s helping me work on developing my own style!
I am looking for some feedback from seasoned bloggers, as to my style, tone, voice, and any tips on working on scheduling or limiting how many posts per day. Basically I need help finding/developing a system that works :)

Seriously love reading everyone’s blogs, so far!

@bandnamdcharlie, you might want to post in the Community Pool thread on The Daily Post — it’s the place to give/get feedback. Lots of kind folks who really take the time to read your blog and give helpful critique.

One of my resolutions was to branch out and read other people’s blogs (because I tend to be bad at following back). I’ve done this, but to make sure you share the love perhaps an add-on to today’s task is to write a post and share what you have read?

I’ve done this for five of the blogs I read, hoping they will pass it on and share the love. Hoping this will introduce some of my readers to the people I enjoy reading.

I’ve been doing this since I started blogging. Right now I’m following 10 pretty cool blogs here. I love checking out what others have to say and share since I’m a newbie.

When I first signed up I tried to find blogs using the topics on the Reader and just couldn’t find anything of interest. Just four days in to this challenge I have found all kinds of interesting and relevant blogs, this challenge is fantastic in helping me to connect with other bloggers. Oh, and the challenge for day four – I didn’t even know you could follow specific topics, but they’ve now been added :o)

    Hello challenge-mates!

I already follow so many other blogs that its hard for me to keep up, but I am going to look for some more. If you are looking for something different to read, come by and see me @ SchizoIncognito.com!

    On a side note:
I just got Photoshop and finally added a customized header image to my blog. Come by and check it out and let me know what you think. I think it looks spiffy.
