Zero to Hero: Day Four
-
Since day 1 of Zero to hero i started following some blogs, maybe 5 or 6. The experience was so great that inspired me to create a more personal blog.

@robmikemom, you can also upload the videos to one of the free services, like YouTube, and then embed them into your site. You only need VideoPress if you want to upload the actual video files themselves to WordPress.com.
(Also — yes, custom CSS does require the $30 Custom Design upgrade.)
-
@michelleweber, do I just embed the link to the video on the webpage, or can I embed it in such a way as to show the video player in the page? Do posts support the HTML5 video tag?
-
@robmikemom, you can show the video player in the page; you can even edit certain parts of how it appears. For a simple embedded video player, just put the URL of the video, with the actual hyperlink removed, on its own line in the post. (More detail here.)
And here are details on using shortcodes to embed videos from Flickr, Vimeo, Hulu, or YouTube.
Hope this helps!

Oh this hard. I literally did this before New Year hit. Daily Post, you are cruel :)
For those interested, I’m a playwright (in the making) who rips apart theatre. And I occasionally ramble: Laidig’s Broadway.
The main saga I’m currently struggling with is another theme for my site. I like what I have, but it isn’t nearly as malleable as I’d like it to be i.e. with a sidebar/room for other widgets. I’m considering the Fontfolio theme, but if anyone else has other insider knowledge on similar themes, feel free to throw it my way.

More and more I’m glad I found the Zero to Hero challenge, as it’s been forcing me to go outside my comfort zone. Not that it’s uncomfortable searching for different themes than what I’m used to, but I’ve just never actually done it before! Who knew there were so many different – and specific – topics out there?
Also, to borrow from a comment off the reader how-to page, it’s made me realize I need to be more specific in tagging. (“Shoes” as opposed to the generic “fashion,” for instance.)

I personally love being inspired by others blogs and I like to have the “blogs I follow” widget in my side bar so others can see where I get my inspiration! Make sure to check out my blog and please please PLEASE give me feedback! I would appreciate it from my fellow bloggers! I also encourage you to check out the blogs I follow (they are at the bottom of my side bar). Definitely some of the best things I’ve ever read (:
Have a good one!

@claidig, theme-related tasks are coming up soon :)
@robmikemom, the slug is the part of the URL that designates the particular post/page — in dailypost.wordpress.com/zero-to-hero/, “zero-to-hero” is the slug. WordPress.com will automatically make the title of your post into the slug, but you can edit it to be whatever you’d like.
Re: SkyDrive — the “Ideas” forum is the place for WordPress.com suggestions. Staff do pay attention to it — why not start a thread?

This challenge was . . . just that, more challenging than I thought because I already follow several in my interest. But, I still managed to find a few new tags and even some awesome blogs! Check them out!
-
Today, my blog is a month old! This challenge is really fitting because even though I’ve been on here for a month, I haven’t really felt part of the WordPress community. So I’ll definitely check out the tags for things that interest me and hopefully make some friends too! :)
-
I’ve already found some great blogs I’m sure I will keep up with for a long time! Loving this challenge so far :)
-
This challenge was nice because it involved less writing and more reading.
I cheated a bit since I have two blogs rather than pick 10 new blogs to follow I picked 6. I used the same post for both.. Forgive me please. LOL!http://sonyaliraphotography.com/2014/01/05/explore-the-neighborhood-day-4-zero-to-hero-challenge/

So, this post is a bit of a surprise. It started off me wanting to talk about the amazing blogs out there, and ended up a kind of lecture to myself on good manners in the blogosphere. If you think it is too far removed from what this forum is talking about today, let me know and I will take it down. Thank you.http://cogitoergomum.wordpress.com/2014/01/05/thanking-the-unthankable-how-to-manage-manners-in-the-virtual-world/

I only found one blog to follow today, sigh! I’m supremely unmotivated today too, I’ve been trying to re-work one paragraph for hours. More zero than hero at the moment, ha!
For feed readers I use Bloglovin if anyone is looking for suggestions, it had a silly name but it’s straightforward, easy to use, and had a clean look.

@captureyouphotography, just as a clarification, you don’t have to post about each day’s assignment unless you want to. The tasks stand alone; if an assignment requires you to post, it will specify that. That being said, if you *want* to post, feel free! The more blogging the merrier.
@pbrigitte, you don’t strike gold every day! As long are you’re following some topics that interest you, you’ll find blogs your love eventually. Plus, we’ll be doing this again :)

I would like to comment that I have been learning quite a bit from both the Zero to Hero and Daily Prompt Posts. I have also been reading and learning about writing stories for my blog… Psychology for Photographers (irresistible words workshop) Everything combined I confident on the upcoming 2014 blogging year!
As for finding blogs to follow… I have been doing just that and having fun in exploring.
