Zero to Hero: Day Nine

@vegasesundance
Do you really want to attract the kind of traffic (escort agency and other flesh peddlers) and the porno spam that using keywords like “sexting” will bring to your blog? -
P.S. In case folks here don’t know it this is a public forum. The threads are almost instantly indexed by Google and Bing, etc. Everything we post here can be read b y anyone with internet access and associated to our usernames and blogs. And, there are those who are definitely lurking here to collect information and assist spammers with their dirty work.

Yes. For Google searches use this format and replace “keyword” with whatever word you wish:
keyword site:wordpress.com/Example search string
Queen Victoria site:wordpress.com
results > http://tinyurl.com/csaobsxI’ll add this for others.
The Tags search page is in the Reader area of the Dashboard.
http://wordpress.com/tags/The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/
For Topics (Tags page) searches see http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/ This is the syntax http://en/wordpress.com/tags/canada
See here http://wordpress.com/#!/read/topics/P.S. I use Google search.

This is a great task today. I have already been finding some new and interesting blogs to follow since starting this challenge, and I look forward to finding more.
Here is a list of some of my favorite blogs I have come across since I started blogging:
http://interestingliterature.com/
http://nedhickson.com/
http://apartment-wife.com/
http://tipsylit.com/
http://becomingcliche.wordpress.com/
http://her30s.wordpress.com/

Quite unexpectedly, I really got sucked into this one!
I am a bit of a selfish individual, very often unobservant and most of the times blatantly oblivious to anything that is happening in my surroundings (unless it hits me full force in my face) so this was a wonderful opportunity to open my eyes and explore!
I knew this blogging thing will do me good :-)

I think this is a great way to force us to go out there and interact with other bloggers.
I’m happier with blogging than when I first started. :)

@thistimethisspace
That depends…what is porno spam?No seriously I don’t want any of those and did not fully understand the consequences of my actions. Thanks for the heads up.
Incidentally Flesh Peddlers could be a cool name for a band. Wait let me just check…
“Ladies and Gentlemen, put your hands together and give a warm welcome on stage to the….FLESH PEDDLERS!’
Nah it still sounds dirty.

I found this challenge today and I am a new blogger. What a wealth of information!! I am going to try and put all this great advice to good use.
I love reading all your comments on this challenge. Very helpful :)

@vegasesundance, your posts make me chuckle! I can’t believe you’ve never heard of porno spam…LOL
Love your blog @ngrigor

I really enjoy the days about community. One of the best parts of blogging is meeting new people and learning about new interests. When I started my first blog a few years ago, I began following a wonderful travel blog. As it happens I ended up on a press trip with that blogger last spring and it was just as exciting as meeting a movie star.
-
Mostly I follow art blogs, but I’m following a few writing, food, fashion, photography, and nature blogs. It surprises me how diverse the blogging community has become. I always knew that but when you stop to think about it, you say, “Whoa!”

Ok added one person to my blogroll & went to check it out & the image that I used is huge (it was an image link). There is nothing that I can see in the links menu to change the size display of the image. Or where I could apply it myself. I cannot get an image from my media library to display instead. Is there a way?

I am trying to make a post but for some reason all of a sudden it is not spacing my paragraphs. Do you have any idea what has changed since I last posted?

For Google searches use this format and replace “keyword” with whatever word you wish:
keyword site:wordpress.com/@timethief – yet another really great strategy to connect with focused blog content – thanks!
. . . about today’s task, thanks to the Zero-to-Hero challenges, articles and these forum threads, I’m finally figuring out how to use the Reader without being completely overwhelmed!
One thing I’ve tried that’s new this week is has to do with tags in your posts and in the Reader: When you publish a new blog post and a screen comes up suggesting additional tags, I now add them . . . and then I click on one or two of those very specific tags (such as “fortune cookie”) in the Reader to see what turns up. It’s helped me connect much better!

I was relieved to have a reading assignment today. I posted earlier than usual and have been tinkering with the nuts and bolts of my blog today. I’ve already prepared for some improvements I will make tomorrow as well. I really enjoyed reading posts today. Looking at other blogs is helping me refine my own. Thanks everyone!

It is definitely a good habit to look for new blogs on a daily basis, that way I don’t end up out of the loop. This time, I found several more really interesting blogs!
